NEED TO VENT

So I have a cousin who has been angry with my family (whole family, including grandma and grandpa) for almost 3 years now. She got married in April, and even though my immediate family wasn't invited- only family out of all my aunts/uncles on that side, I sent a card/giftcard. I included a little note trying to reach out and come to find out that she used the gift on "butt wipe" and that asked where I got off putting a card in her card box on her wedding day. Needless to say I didn't get a thank you.

I knew I should not have expected much, but was I really in the wrong trying to put our past behind us? I didn't go to the wedding, I had an aunt who was put my card in for me.

Sorry, just needed to vent, my fi has asked me not to talk to about the situation around him (he only knew her after she hated everyone) and has no respect for her.

I don't think you were out of line. It was rude of her to act that way toward a gift, regardless of who sent it. It doesn't mean that just because you gave a gift, she automatically has to smooth things over with you, but I think her reaction was immature. I commend you for trying to be the bigger person, but I would probably not try to reach out to her anymore, as she obviously doesn't care.

Either you did something truly attrocious to her, or she's just insanely immature. However, based on her response, I'm putting my money on the latter. Even if someone like my exBIL (who is one of the biggest assholes I know) sent me a card for my wedding, I'd still send a generic thank you card.

I'd not try to contact her in the future. You tried, she acted like a child, so I would feel no guilt about letting this one go. Family or not, who needs someone like that in their life?

Kirkland signature butt wipe is pretty good stuff, I must say.

OP, she sounds like she's being insanely immature. At least you tried to make peace with her, kudos for that. If she wants to be immature, you can't stop her. Kudos for trying.
