  • This place is horrible! My brother and sister-in-law had their wedding here.  I can't speak to anything that happened from the time they started planning 1 1/2 years prior to the event, however I can speak to how the rehearsal and overall wedding was.  We showed up on Friday afternoon for the rehearsal and Joe the owner was nowhere to be found.  The entire place was in shambles.  Chairs were knocked over, the inside was filthy, there were leaves and dirt all over the furniture outside (under a canopy out of the rain).  Now I realize it had been raining the entire day, but this was beyond rainstorm debris - it looked both inside and outside like they were not expecting to have a wedding the very next day (in 24 hours).  Someone from our wedding party had to go and find Joe - it looked like we had woken him from a nap and he wasn't even expecting us, although arrangements had been made ahead of time.  We left there feeling anxious and hoping the place would look much better the next day (and that it wouldn't rain).  No such luck.  It rained the day of the wedding and the decision was made to move everything inside.  The place was cleaned up and looked better, but not stellar.  The entire grassy area was flooded from the rain and there was a huge puddle of water where the aisle to the ceremony site was.  If it wasn't raining, there would have been no way we could have had the wedding outside anyway because of all the water.  The ceremony went off without a hitch.  Then our entire group had to move outside so they could reset the room for the reception.  It took almost 2 hours to reset the room - I'm not sure why because the tables were already set up and just had to be moved.  We had appetizers brought in from another caterer which were delicious.  However, there were about 4 boxes of leftover appetizers that somehow went missing.  When asked about it later, Joe blamed the family for taking them.  We had 118 people and the tables were really crowded,  I'm not sure how we would have fit in anther 20 or 30 people in that room.  The glasses and dishware were broken and chipped. The linens were dingy.  The ladies room was inadequate.  There were two toilets, one you pulled an accordion door closed to have some privacy, the other, you pulled a curtain around the toilet area.  The food was good, but Joe had used recipes from the bride's mother.  Despite these issues, the reception was fun and everyone had a great time.  The bigger issues happened after the wedding was over.  Joe called the groom's parents and accused them of taking the specialty wine that was left over from the wedding (which they did not).  He had several inappropriate and unprofessional conversations with the bride's family after the fact as well.  He claimed the appetizers messed up the timing if dinner and that was what was to blame for the 2 hour delay.  He als accused them of taking pans, other food and the wine from the wedding (later he found the pans and the food that was so-called missing). Joe charges a lot of money for this venue, claims that every thing is included, yet nickels and dimes you on every detail and does not deliver.  He says he does over 70 weddings a year - at about $15,000 per, that is over $1,000,000 a year.  He is NOT putting that money back into Shadow's Ranch.  It's unfortunate because the venue could be amazing if it was run by someone who cares about their customers. You'd be better off going somewhere else!!!
