Dress Shopping.... Wow.

O.K, so I went to Davids (pensacola) The people there are amazing. I had gone to a few other shops this week including the "upscale Salon" but the sales people are like so obnoxious. "That dress, is SO YOU!" Really after 15 minutes you feel like you really know me, really? I was so irritated I might have had "The" dream dress on and not even noticed because I was so distracted and annoyed by the sales people circling me like sharks. LOL

Then I went to David's, with kind of low expectations. I thought they were going to be cheaper quality gowns. Maybe some were but some were as nice as the $5k or 6k dresses I tried on elsewhere. The people there were awesome. I tried on a few I thought I might like and they gave me good feedback to help me make up my own mind. Which was good because I don't have anyone to go shopping with me. I actually trut these people to help me look my best not just talk me into their most expensive dress.

Did I find the one? Umn... not yet, but I have a better idea as to what I want  I just ran out of time. None of the dresses I picked because I thought they'd be flattering on me looked the way I thought. It's hell being a flat chested midget.   heh.

Glad to hear you had a good experience at David's. I've heard from some people that they'd had bad experiences but mine was just like yours. Good luck with future shopping trips!

I really think it depends on which Davids, you go to and who is managing it. There is another city north of us that has a Davids that has a terrible rep, and I met more then one bride from that town shopping at this Davids because they heard how much better it was.

I wish there was a way to find out which stores had commissioned sales people and which ones didn't. That will usually tell you whether or not they're going to be honest & comfortable salespeople.

I worked at a place in the mall where it was mostly commission, and they trained me to be VERY pushy, dishonest & annoying. So I quit, after day 1 of training. I don't like people to be that way, so I wasn't going to be that way either.

I'm willing to assume that cheaper, smaller stores are going to have better service and less pushy people. But that's just me.

I bought my dress and my MOH got her dress at the P'Cola DB.  They are really great there.

Yay! I'm glad you had a good experience. I didn't even step foot into DB. (The size and amount of people overwhelm me...same w/Alfred Angelo's.) I've heard many girls having great luck w/them though.

The feedback and "non-pushiness" is what I loved about where I purchased my gown. They asked questions rather then assuming that they knew me. I was trying to decide between a gorgeous more classic gown....and then mine which is also beautiful...but definitely more modern. They really tried to get to know me and the whole vibe of my wedding to help me decide.

GL with the rest of your search. I went out MANY times and probably tried on 30-40 dresses! ;)

Thanks, I felt kind of bad not buying anything after the time they spent with me, but I will be back and will spread the word. I think I had this vision of what I wanted. I am modern kind of edgy, but the dresses that appealed to me didn't fit my body type, and I want to look the most fabulous I possibly can so my priorities have totally changed and I have to re-group.

I'm glad you had a good experience!  I was skeptical at first too, but of the few bridal shops I visited, my consultant at DB was the most experienced and I was very impressed with her. I found my dress on my first day shopping, but they didn't pressure me to buy and encouraged me to actually go home and sleep on it.
    Good luck finding the one!

It's definitely a good idea to re-group. I always got to a frazzled point where I simply said, "This is it for the day. I'm done" When it stops being fun you're not being productive anyway. I found it was always much more productive to go home and unwind w/ a drink and return to shopping another day. You'll find the one. :)

I'm glad you had a good experience there.  My experience was similar... went to dozens of more upscale boutiques without much luck (and wasn't overly impressed with most of the consultants).  Then went to David's as a last resort and found a beautiful dress that was nicer than some of the more expensive ones I tried on elsewhere.  It's funny because both of my consultants there were ex-knotties.  Good luck with the rest of your search!

Alfred Angelo had a trunk show last week for one of their lines so I went browsing.. I ended up trying on 3 dresses and might have already found "the one" and my consultant that day was PHENOMENAL!!  I would definitely go back again.

A few years ago I had to get a BM dress from Davids.  The Avenues has  a great shop but there are so many people in there!  Unfortunately my MOH is coming from Japan for the wedding and everyone else is out of the area so I'll be using them for BM and possibly MOB and MOG dresses.
