Kahu Bruce

I was wondering if any of you paid for him to attend your rehearsal?  I just feel weird about meeting the officiant the day of the wedding!!!

I love what I hear about him - I've read a lot of reviews, saw a lot of pictures, and have seen a video or two.  Plus, the added bonus is that he seems to work with couples that don't want to have a specific religious focus for their ceremony!

I'm just curious - is he pretty responsive via email?

thanks :D

When I spoke to him, he mentioned that he will meet us when we go get our marriage license when we get into town (so a few days before the wedding).  At that time, he will go through the final details of the ceremony, so we wouldn't be meeting him for the first time on the day of.

I'd love to see some videos of his ceremonies - did you ask him for those?  Or did you get access to them somewhere else?

He's been pretty responsive with emails.  I had asked him about the best way to contact him, and he said both emails and phone calls are good!  From what I've read on here though, most people have more luck over the phone.

Hi Noreen! :)  I peruse so many Hawaii videographer blogs/vimeo sites that I can't remember where I saw him.  If I stumble upon him again, I'll let you know!! :)

Were you able to secure your date with a deposit/contract?  I know a lot of other brides said he just said he'll save the date for you.  Doesn't sit well with my Type A personality, but I'm guessing there would be a lot of negative feedback if he ever flaked... so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt :)

I have some (crappy quality) videos on my facebook but i dont know how to share them. We met him 3 days before the wedding at the dept of health & had a 20-30 min sit down meeting. There was no contract or deposit but he was really good at checking in with us every so often leading up to the wedding. He does email it just might take a few days to hear back. We had a few vendors without a contract & it all worked out fine, everything is just a little more laid back in HI- vendors included.

We paid for him to do our rehearsal, which was on the patio at the Ilikai where we were staying (got married at Lanikuhonua & it wasn't avail for rehearsal...fine by me, everyone has been in weddings). He was amazing...ran through it 3 times so everyone was comfortable with it. Went over the ceremony with them & made everyone feel at home. He does charge for this, but IMO it was worth it. However, if you don't want to pay for that, he does the marriage lic w/ you & goes over the ceremony elements then...which as I recall he keeps secret. Doesn't like other's copying them, hence not a lot of videos out there & he doesn't share any w/ you. Shares the ceremony elements via email, but no video. Anyway, he's amazing & my fiance & I were near tears at our meeting at the dept of health. Which is funny, but he is great w/ whatever you want or don't want to be in the ceremony!

I didn't sign a contract with him either.  He said he saves the date as soon as he gets an inquiry...I really haven't talked to any other officiants, so given his reviews on here, I will likely just go ahead and keep communicating with him!

He emailed a sample ceremony with all the Hawaiian elements to it - can anyone elaborate on what these ceremony elements are like?  I've heard that the "meaning of Aloha" part is great, but I'm having a hard time picturing the chants, the lei ceremonies, etc.

The lei exchange & blessing were so moving. My Dh was in tears when he gave his mom her lei because she was in tears. We gave leis to 7 people (my parents, his, his grandparents & my stepmom) we kept it a surprise til the ceremony & they loved it! He did an awesome chant as my DH entered the ceremony & we werent expecting it so it was really neat & set the tone. I was hiding out waiting my turn so I only got to see it on video later.
