Added Stress!

So it turns out that with my selected venue, flowers, photographer, etc..im about $3000 over budget.!CryYell ..so now I'm planning on DIYing my invites, STDs, and my bouquets. OR switch venues. I can move my venue further south closer to FI's family and save money(a couple thousand to be exact), but it would be a 45min ride by my family. Most of the guests are FIs family, and so I thought about renting a party bus, coach bus or something for my family to all ride down and back together, that way they don't have to worry about the drive. It works for my budget, but my mom said its too much. I don't know what to do.!

Re: Added Stress!

  • i say check into party bus idea and see if a venue u like nearer to FI family is available
  • I agree with pp.  Check the party bus.  If that doesn't work, then diy'ing stuff isn't too hard.  Just pick simple things to do.

  • I made all the bouquets already (just adding finishing touches) and they weren't difficult and I saved SOOO much $. I'm also making all the flowers for the ceremony (out of coffee filters) its not hard but it's very time consuming so if you have people that can help u maybe you can explore something like that. Everyone who has seen them is very impressed and at .10 per flower I'll take the DIY route any day! HTH and good luck budgets suck!

It's your wedding, not your mom's. What does she mean by it's too much? Do what feels right for you. Have you checked the venues closer to your FI's family?

  • I say either DIY or don't worry about the drive.

My family is 30-40 minutes from our venue and FI's family is a little closer to an hour. But it was the closest in between venue that we both loved and was in budget. And as my family told me, they love me and it's my wedding day so they will be there no matter how far they have to drive.

45 minutes is really not that bad! My venue is at least an hour from all of my guests. If you want to change your venue, that is. If you really don't want to change then definitely DIY some stuff to save the money. I hope it works out!

  • I don't think a party bus would be necessary, like PP said- 45 minutes really isn't bad IMO. Chances are, some of your family members would carpool anyway. No matter where you'd have your wedding, some people would have to drive a good distance whether it be his or your family. I definitely agree with DIYing some things if you don't want to change your venue.
