Will color paint chip off cookware set?

Hi, I really love the colored cookware sets by Rachel Ray and put one on my registry.  But I just thought, will the paint start to chip off and look horrible due to normal wear and tear?  Does anyone have a colored cookware set and had the paint chip off?

Thanks!

Re: Will color paint chip off cookware set?

  • I can't speak for Rachel Ray's cookware, but I have two pots from some random brand that are colored and they have never chipped or become discolored. It's not like they're just coated with paint - they're painted and then coated with something on top of that, so you should be fine.

I'd check out the care instructions/warranty before registering, if you're concerned.
  • A lot of enameled pots and pans require some liquid to be in them before heating, otherwise the enamel (or paint) may crack - I have an enamel stock pot and that's never been a problem because there's always something on the bottom of it.  Personally I wouldn't buy an enamel skillet or anything like that, but that's just me.  I agree with PP that you should check the care instructions and warranty info.

  • Enameled! Hoffse, I could not think of that word when I was posting, it was driving me nuts. I'm glad you posted :)
  • It depends on what process was used to apply the color.  I don't know anything about the Rachael Ray, but most enameled sets don't chip or peel as long as you follow the recommended use.  Also, look at your warranty, if it does chip or peel before that's up they should take it back.
  • Can't speak to Rachel Ray. I know Le Crueset's warranty specifically covers this. I know I've seen cheap sets that do chip.

I second this!  Rachel Ray doesn't have the warranty
