Back from tastings..

We meet with Diane from Dutch Oven Bakery in ames. The cakes were amazing! We are doing two cakes. The wedding cake will be chocolate, chocolate with mocha filling, then the top tier will be white with champagne(just for something different) Then the grooms cake is going to be  a "snowboarding cake" with one tier plain white and the top tier white with lemon(gross, but he LOVES it )

For the caterer, we went to the lidderdale country store in lidderdale. We decided to continue our search for the caterer, I wasn't a big fan of the food, it was a little too bland for me. I already made an appointment with Farmhouse catering in Nevada. No we just have to wait and see how they are. :)

Have you talked to Hickory Park?  I wasn't a fan of Lidderdale either, but wanted you to make up your own mind :)  We are doing the "Sunday Brunch" from Hickory Park .. didn't want the sandwiches ...

At first I didn't want to do hickory park at ALL. I don't like bbq at all but MC since you mentioned the sunday dinner, I might think about doing a tasting there. We have one scheduled for Farmhouse on may 28th, maybe we could sneak one in on the 29th too. I'm not going to lie to you ladies, it's HARD to plan a wedding out of state :(

It's hard to plan a wedding 2.5 hours away too!  I feel your pain!! I am sure some of us would be glad to do your tastings for you!  ;)

Your cake sounds wonderful!  Good luck on your food search!

I had the same feelings about Hickory Park lol!!!  The Sunday Dinner sold me, though :) Thats why I mentioned it :)  I think it was $7.75pp and that includes 3 sides ... although they don't "lock in" the price until 90 days before your wedding date ...

Just a side note--Hickory Park will not do tastings. We are planning on using them and this is what they told me in an e-mail:

"I’m sorry but in order to keep our prices reasonable we do not offer tastings.   You are more than welcome to come to Hickory Park as a regular guest and dine to try our meal items.   I will also be happy to  provide descriptions for you as well."

They have been very nice and helpful through e-mail conversations, but we haven't actually went in and ordered anything we may want on our buffet. Good Luck finding a caterer.
