Getting in Shape

Needs Motivation!!

I have a little less than 7 months until the wedding and I want to lose a little bit of weight, but can't motivate myself to work out!! I even have a stationary bike in my home and a weight bench. I have been trying to keep up with MyFitnessPal, but always end up eating wayyyyy too much on Saturday's. HELPP!!!!!!!

Re: Needs Motivation!!

  • Have you tried different types of workouts like kickboxing, zumba, etc? I find it super hard to workout at home. I'm much better with classes and have been able to stay committed by finding classes I like and also trying new ones. Once you're "off the wagon', it's so hard to get back on but all it takes is one day at a time.

I'm in the Boston area as well and there have been some really great Groupon / Living Social deals lately that I have taken advantage of. Buying them almost makes me immediately accountable for going since I don't want the money to go to waste. Where in Boston are you? Only ask because I live on the South Shore and can offer some really great classes to try out if you're interested.

  • I'm in Waltham, but I'm getting married on the South Shore. : I do Zumba DVDs at home too... Do you know of any up here?
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • I don't personally know of any but my friend recommended www.walthamzumba.com Check it out! :) It's pretty reasonably priced so you can try it and see if it's something you're into. It's so hard to get going but I feel like once you go a few times, it's almost like a "need" to go...

    Where are you getting married??

  • Visual reminders help keep me in line.  Cut out some pictures of pretty brides and stick them on your fridge or pantry.

Make a great setlist to listen to and JUST DO IT!  Get on the bike & kick its butt.  Or get into a class like PP suggested and have fun with it.

Weekends are tough, but I try to tell myself that if I'm disciplined & stay on track 90% of the time, if I fall off a bit the other 10% I'm still staying on track overall.  I try to make my weekends all about meal and snack prep for the week so it helps me stay on track during the duration.  But like you, weekends are hard for me!!

[QUOTE]I eat too much on Saturdays.  It happens.  Like reggies says, if you're good most of the week, the occasional weekend overeating happens.  A few ideas:  have green tea on hand - I've found when I'm craving food having a cup of green tea will get rid of the craving.  Exercise on Saturday, even if it's just a walk or a one hour class.  You can eat a little more than.   And meal plan.  I tend to fall off the wagon on Saturdays and Sundays because I don't have lunch plans, and it's way too easy to run out and get something.  Not worth it, and I'm trying to be better about planning meals.  Also, do you have your dress yet / have any pics of you in it?  I've found that looking at those pictures and thinking "Love the dress, want to look even better in it than I did in December" helps me remain focused.

Thanks for the great advice. I've actually had my dress for over a year now and I have second guessed myself a million times too... Mostly because I haven't seen the dress on (besides in pictures) in a long time.

I'm getting married on 10.6.12... so excited!! Saw your post on the Boston board that you're getting married at the Villa! That venue is gorgeous!! Congrats!!

One other thing I thought of... do you have friends close by that would be willing to join you at zumba?? I find that when trying something new, it's easier to go when you have a "buddy"... plus if you have a "date" for the gym / class, it makes you more accountable. Just a thought :)

There's a women- only group that meets a few times a week in Quincy (i know, not close to Plymouth) and the trainer is awesome! She offers a bridal bootcamp too! It's called Body Fit... The classes vary each day from zumba to kickboxing to weight training.
There's also a great Zumba place in Weymouth (ZASS) and an awesome Kickboxing class in Abington (Kardio Kickboxing). There's also a great bootcamp in Marshfield (rbfit.com).
