Just how bad is...

Registering at Target?

My FI and I are going to register tonight. We're definitely doing BBB and now, after reading a few posts, I'm hesitant about Target.

FI's family is from a teeny tiny small town in Central Illinois and the closest 'city' is 30 minutes away and only has a BBB and Target. No Macys, No Potterybarn, No C&B, No WS, ect.

I was planning on doing most things at BBB and only planning on registering for a few items through Target.

Re: Just how bad is...

  • I'm sure target wouldn't be THAT bad, but just another option to consider is something like amazon.com. You can use it to register for anything from any store, and you already have a "brick and mortar" option (BBB) for those who don't like to shop online. Personally, if I lived 30 minutes away from the stores, I would be ordering your gift online anyway.
  • We had Target, and while it's not great, it's not like you'll get the completely wrong items or nothing that you registered for.  My experience was that the web site was bad and the instore things were just fine.  I know people's experiences are all over the board, and frankly I have yet to hear of a registry that is without problems, so if there are things you want at Target then I would go with it.
  • I've had a good experience so far. I registered there months ago. Everything we scanned showed up. We didn't get anything additional. A few things turned out to be seasonal, so we deleted & replaced. The website can be wonky sometimes, but then again, so can TK. I've never NOT been able to go on & edit. Sometimes you just have to refresh the screen a few times. Turns out that my mom forgot to mention Target in my shower invites, so no guest went there! It is very convenient for our guests also.
  • We registered at Target and Macy's, and I haven't been unhappy with either.  Target seems to be a bit slower at updating purchases, and the website is inconsistent (sometimes works fine, sometimes not), but it seems like everything we scanned showed up, nothing extra appeared that we didn't want, etc... so I would say go for it, just make sure you're monitoring it every once in awhile :)

  • Thanks for your input everyone. We're going to go for it. They have these super cute square plates I love. :)

  • Great question...  I was wondering the same thing since FI and I are registering tomorrow.  I absolutely love Target and a lot of their stuff so as much as I don't want to run into any problems, it's just a no brainer for us to register there.  Good luck!!

  • I registered there and I haven't noticed any significant issues, other than being unable to link it to my registry360. Some of their seasonal decorations are really cute.

  • We've registered at Target.  I haven't had any problems with the registry itself.  I'm not a huge fan of the way the registry is set up online, but that seems like a minor detail to me.  I'm also registered at BBB, and that one is much easier to navigate. But I think that is just a lot of personal preference.  I wouldn't hesitate to register there again.
  • I've read a lot of bad things about the technical side of the Target registries.  I'd just keep an extra close eye on things to make sure nothing goes awry.
