Because of the Italian community at the church we are getting married at my cantor also can sing in Italian. I think Italian sounds beautiful sung and was thinking about asking her to sing at our wedding in Italian. Though neither my FI or myself is Italian. He is eastern european and i'm chinese. Would this be strange? We are having programs so we can have the translations printed in that.

I don't think so! Of course, our entire wedding was in Latin, so clearly I don't have a problem with using other languages!

The only thing is, some of the hymns are supposed to be congregational singing. So if you're having them 'performed' in a language that neither of you and probably not many of your guests speak, you won't really be facilitating congregational singing. Just something to keep in mind.
