Flowers and centerpeices

I just read that your flowers should be 1/10 of your total budget. I guess I was very out of it cause I figured a couple $100. So im thinking of not really having many flowers. Just going with branch/crystal centerpeices and honestly may be weird but I dont care much about the bouquets. I could do one of those brooch bouquets? Anyone else not doing flowers or minimal flowers? If so, how much are you spending?

Re: Flowers and centerpeices

  • Flowers aren't that important to me, so we're just doing the basics....bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, 2 arrangements for the altar/head table. I think everything comes to about $700.  Centerpieces will probably be some sort of floating candles or candle arrangement, since our caterer has a wide assortment of candleholders to pick from.

A few people here have recommended the floral department at Kroger on Chambers Rd for nice, inexpensive flowers if you still want to go the flower route.

Also, I've seen branches used as centerpieces and they looked fine!  Check the Wedding Classifieds board or craigslist to get them on the cheap...also the Dollar Tree or Hobby Lobby.

  • I didn't use flowers for my centerpieces.  We used Candles...

We also went very basic with flowers, but I wanted some relatively expensive flowers. (and my mom had some ideas of her own)

For 5 bridesmaids bouquest, 1 bridal, 5 groomsmen boutineres, 1 groom

Parents (2 fathers, 2 mothers) and 2 grandparents Corsage

and 2 alter pieces I think it was about 1,000

BUt like I said I had some relatively expensive flowers in my bouquet!

  • There are many options if you don't want to use flowers but where you do want flowers...you don't have to break the bank.  We used mums for our centerpieces and got them from a greenhouse which was more inexpensive then other centerpiece flowers and our arrangements/bridesmaid bouquets were done by Kelly Karsten.  Her prices are VERY reasonable, I suggest looking her up =)

As for a brooch bouquet.  I didn't have the time to find the brooches or the talent to make one but this was my "had to have" item.  They can be very pricey but the benefit is that it will last forever.

  • As tacky as it may sound...I am using fake flowers for the VERY few flowers I will have in the first place. I hate the smell of flowers and they are sooo expensive! There are so many other things I would rather splurge on! Like pp, I am using a ton of candles that I will be buying from dollar tree and walmart! Dollar tree also sells different sized vases and polished rocks for centerpieces! There are many other options to go with for centerpieces besides flowers if they aren't your taste or are too much for your budget! :)
