weekend after Mardi Gras question

Hi friends - My fiancee and I are planning a Feb. 2013 wedding for the weekend AFTER mardi gras. So next year Mardi Gras begins on Tuesday the 12th.

We're looking at the weekend of the 23rd.

We are assuming the city is completely back to normal - are we correct?

THANKS!

Re: weekend after Mardi Gras question

  • Yes, 100%. It is suprising how back to normal nola becomes even on Ash Wednesday.
  • Yes, it will all be over.  The Mardi Gras festivities shut down at midnight on Fat Tuesday.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • Carnival season will begin in January. In 2013, February 12th is actually the last day of the season. Mardi Gras will definitely not interfere with that weekend.

  • Yep! It's safe.

I actually used to work in food service along the parade route and on Ash Wednesday this family of tourists came in and said "We're so excited to be in town for Mardi Gras, are the parades easy to see along here?"  And I felt terrible explaining that Mardi Gras ENDS on Fat Tuesday and they had missed the whole thing.

  • Just check with the hotels or venues to see if anything else is coming up. We are running into the SEC tournament for women's basketball and the final 4 with my daughter's wedding planning.  February is a terrible time to have a wedding in New Orleans.  It's cold and rainy much of the time.  My niece had her wedding in February outside at Southern Oaks.  We were all miserable.  My daughter is getting married in New Orleans in March 2012,   We are hoping for good weather, but it can go either way in March.
  • I was planning for the weekend of the 9th but had to veto that idea fast. I'm now looking into the weekend of the 16th.
