OMGSH! Termination Dust....

I know this is definitely random.  But we had termination dust today, well in the mountains!! And it's actually getting dark outside!  This pretty much means summer is over Booo lol well the positive side of it would be  bears will be hibernating and I can break out my snowboard!
But I'm really hoping I'll be able to take FI on some hiking trails when he gets here, he always says he's jealous everytime he sees pics!!  And snow would make that hard!

Is anybody here ready for fall/winter? or dreading it?

I'm psyched for fall and winter! That means I'll be married, FI will be kicking butt in Afghanistan, and I will hopefully be Oscar Mike to OCS!

Well, summer being over means I have to go back to work. I really loved my summer vacation this year. I had a very hard class last year, was planning a wedding, and was figuring out where we'd be for the next PCS. So needless to say, I used this summer as a time to relax.

BUT I am psyched because it means we are closer to getting out of Northern Virginia and closer to Georgia!

I am scared though because I'll know no one and have no friends.

I'm also excited for fall/winter. DH will be gone soon and I'll hopefully get commissioned and head to Army OBC for medical officers. If not, come October, I'll be filling out my 3rd officer app in 3 years. I'm persistent I guess :)

aw bummer.. well I hope it holds out a little so you can get on a few hiking trails. FI and I are trying to do EVERYTHING in Washington because this is his only summer here. :( THere is just too much to do! Too many wineries, too many fairs, hikes, backpacking, sports, tourist attractions, oh my! We just can't seem to fit it all in in just one summer..

I am excited for the weather to cool down... its been in the 100s since I moved, its a lot to adjust to for this Minnesota girl. Haha I am looking forward to winter so I can laugh at the locals freaking out over snow. :) (Saying that out loud sounds kinda mean...)

Ditto Shan. I can't wait for the summer to be over already, I am tired of this heat! Granted I was away for a few months after the wedding, so I haven't even been here all this time, but the heat is unbearable.

And the most exciting thing is, H will be coming back when the summer ends, so it needs to get here already!

Lots of exciting things to look forward to!  So happy for everyone!

@FTL That's how it is here! SO Much to do, but I'm hoping we will be able to do some things when he gets here, but there is also a lot to do in the winter too!  So I guess it won't be too bad!! :)

Really hope you all enjoy the rest of your summer!
And hope those places with super hot temps will cool down!!  I know Oklahoma has been that hot, this is my first summer in I don't know long that I've been able to miss out on that heat! I'm defiitely not complaining!  It really sounds miserable.

I am excited for October because my parents, my brother and his girlfriend, FI and I are going to Costa Rica for vacation! Other than that, there's Thanksgiving... And my birthday... And Christmas... And to be honest, I just want this year to pass so I can get the heII out of Miami and we can get married and FI can finally begin his career that he's been working towards since we first met.

Kendall-why do you have to wait til November?

And I'm ready for fall/winter because I'm excited to get back to school and work. I'm ready to be back in that routine. Also the hobby lobby here has Christmas decorations out and I'm excited to have our apartment to decorate and my FI is actually home for it!

@ Calindi Costa Rica sounds amazing!!  I know what you mean, we're having to change our wedding date so it will be a lot later then what we want, but that's ok.  Like you I'm just ready for the year to go by! So I completely understand.

@Ziimsgirl Pretty much all the gift shops around here have tons of Christmas decorations!  I'm excited about decorating and I keep telling everyone I'm going to have an Alaskan tree full of christmas moose ornaments and what not and I've seriously been talking about Christmas for about 3 days now.  I'm just excited because I have a lot of family coming to visit and FI will be here so it will be special.   oh and I just really love Christmas!!

I had to google "termination dust" - apparently it's an Alaskan term for the first snowfall of winter.  A dusting of snow that indicates that summer is 'terminated'.  Go figure!  You learn something new every day.

Call me naive, but I'm really curious how you survive the winters?  I mean, do you get literally no sunlight for months or are the days just ridiculously short?  Do people tend to get depressed?

Haha! I should've said what it meant!!  Alaska is so weird.  I swear it's another country!  They have their own words for everything.  I learn something new everday! It's crazy.

But I moved up here in January and it was light for 4 hours a day!!
But it's not dark the whole winter. It's more like really short days.   It's like gradual thing.  The longest day of the year was June 21 and ever since then we've been losing daylight everyday.  So it will be mostly dark and I think it's pretty dark for like 30 days around December.  But we will have SOME light.  It's not pitch black.  It will be like dusk during "the day" lol  (and I don't know for sure but this is how everyone explains it to me lol) .
Oh and the shortest day is December 21st and we will start gaining light everday after that day.

I actually really thought the summer was going to bother me being so light all the time.  I actually really loved it.  I would be outside doing something and I'd look at the clock thinking it's 7 or 8 and it's 11 PM.  Or my friends and I would go for a hike at 8 or 9 at night.  It's so cool.

OH and I do hear that some people can get depressed during the winter.  So that does suck.

I feel like I would panic, like claustrophobia or something with all that darkness!!! Though I'd love the long days in summer.

Yeah, I'm kind of wishing I owned a tanning bed or something!   It wasn't that bad when I got here, but I didn't really experience the WHOLE winter and the whole darkness thing.  Hopefully it won't be that bad!
