Hi all! I have been lurking here for a while and figured it was time to join in! My wedding is June 1st and I am trying to drop about 15 pounds and really tone up. I am not really overweight, but I know I can be hotter and healthier than I am now! For exercise I do a small group bootcamp class with a trainer that I'll go to twice a week. I started it 8 weeks ago and only did once a week, and I felt like I knew I was much stronger but not seeing it in the mirror, so I really think this twice-per-week cycle will really bring me into high gear. I try to go to the gym another 2-3 days per week and do a zumba class or push through stairmaster misery.
Even though I think I have been working out really great, my trainer (and a lot of people on these boards) insist that the reason I haven't seen the numbers budge on the scale is because of my diet. I think I ate pretty healthily but according to him, I need to be damn near perfect to get anywhere. So as of today I am all about protein, and trying to cut out empty carbs, sugar, alcohol, and dairy. It officially sucks. I miss pasta. I just know that if I put on that dress weighing exactly what I weigh now I will kick myself, and will feel that the money I spent on classes will be a waste.
So that's where I am now, and I am excited to join in on accountability threads. Good luck everyone!
Dreaming of our Hawaiian honeymoon!

Re: Intro & Goals
[QUOTE]Welcome! Are you counting calories? Using an app like MyPlate or MyFitnessPal to count your calories is a GREAT way to make changes in your diet. For example, it may not be that you aren't eating healthy enough but that your portion control is just off. Or it may be that you're eating a lot of healthy foods that are still high calorie. Once I started tracking (last month) I began to see a viable difference in my life. I lost 3 lbs in 4 weeks and have more energy because I'm making better food choices, and I haven't had to actually cut a single food completely OUT of my life to do it. I was really hesitant at first because I thought that counting my calories meant I was going to turn into one of those women who sits at the restaurant calculating everything on the menu before ordering a side salad and a water instead of the fabulous house special. But, it really isn't about that. It's about making better choices and learning how to counteract those occassional indulgences so they don't set you back.

Thanks for your response! i actually do already count calories via LiveStrong and am always close or under. However, my trainer is saying that the calories aren't as crucial as I am making them out to be, what really matters is my choices. For example, If i eat pasta and sugar, it won't matter much if I am under my calorie requirements b/c it is not the calories, its the lack of appropriate fuel. So as frustrating as it is (b/c I feel like I have been doing so well) I now need to count calories and also be basically perfect by eating pure protein and veggies and little to no carbs, sugar, or dairy. It is a PITA, but since my numbers haven't budged, even with tracking, I think what he is saying has some merit. So I'm begrudgingly giving it a shot and eating for fuel rather than flavor.

[QUOTE]From your update and your post on today's Accountability, it sounds like you might not really have that much weight to lose. In that case, yes, you do need to be very restrictive if you're going to see results. I've found that my body tends to have a happy weight, which it will maintain with me still eating basically whatever I want. However, if I wanted to lose 10 pounds from that weight, then I would have to be more restrictive and focused in what I'm eating. Just make sure you're eating enough, netting a good amount of calories for your body, and that you're not making yourself too miserable. I know you want to look hot in your wedding dress, but if it comes at the cost of being unhappy for five months because your food is boring, it might not be worth it.

Yea, you hit the nail on the head. My body is just sort of static bc it really doesn't care about my few extra pounds, but I do! I'm going to try to stick to my trainer's recs as well as I can, keep monitoring my calories, and try to work in a cheat day somewhere in there. Like I said, I do think there is some merit in really being tight with it since I have tried just calorie counting and working out and I have stayed the same. I am glad he gave me a weight goal for the end of the month (approx. 4 pounds) so I have something to focus on as I sullenly eat brown rice and grilled chicken breasts.
Thanks for the support and advice everyone!
[QUOTE]Welcome aboard! PPs have it - track things, build in cheats, rest on rest days, and don't let it consume you. Overall though, I get a negative vibe from you. You've said things about suffering, being sullen, being perfect, counting things being a PITA ... And from your post in today's accountability where you list what you ate yesterday - is that ALL you ate? It doesn't sound quite right to me. We all want to live healthier, more active lives for any number of reasons, and yes, looking good is one of them. But you don't have to be miserable when you're doing this. Hang around here, keep us updated.

Oh I totally don't mean to sound like such a downer! I'm just stubborn and have never dieted before and I guess deep down I went into this thinking I could make only tiny changes and see significant results, so having my trainer really lay out what he thinks I need to do was sort of a kick in the ass, you know? like damn, I actually have to WORK for this?! haha
Also I'm super Italian and a fairly proficient home cook, so the meal plan seems so blah and makes me worried if I'll be able to stick to it. I was also just trying for some gallows humor :) As the day has gone on and I have actually stuck to the plan (so far) I see that its not so bad and I know I'll be thrilled to reap the benefits. I am glad to have all you ladies for motivation as well.
[QUOTE]Just to bring up another point: It also sounds like you're relying on the same forms of exercise and possibly the same type of foods on repeat....if your body has gotten used to your routine, you might see some progress if you mix it up. Mixing it up makes your body work harder and have to change gears. I find that if I've been doing one form of exercise for too long and then throw in something new or something I haven't done in a while, I will see more progress than if I just do the same thing over and over again. Also, consider adding weightlifting into your regime (not sure if that's part of your bootcamp classes or not).

Thanks! weight lifting is a huge part of my bootcamp, and I also lift weights at home. I am working on keeping things interesting in the gym on my solo days. What do you like to do?

<div>I currently do body combat, body pump, then vary my use of ellpitical, stationary bike, treadmill and stairmaster...I'm trying to supplement this all with more weightlifting as well (I'm bad about making myself do it)</div><div>
</div><div>The classes add a little bit too much structure, so on my non-class days I try to always do a different combo of stuff or do things in a different order.</div><div>
</div><div>Once it's not cold out anymore I'll be able to add even more variety back into my routine (can't wait!).</div>
