4 months to go...

I've read different things on when the appropriate time is to register. I was thinking my FI and I would do that in Feb.  With a June 2nd wedding, is that too soon, too far or just right??

Re: 4 months to go...

  • The only problem with registering far in advance is that things could be discontinued.  I think that setting up registries in Feb  for an early June wedding sounds good--we had a similar timeline, I think.
  • I think you're timing is good. FWIW, I've already been registered for about a month & my wedding is April 21st.
  • We registered 4 months out and didn't have many discontinued items from BBB. Target was another story.
  • We started our registries a year out from the wedding. Only one item was discontinued, but it was available at another location, so it wasn't a big deal.

I don't see why anyone thinks there needs to be a timeline for when you register. Unless people ask, they won't know where you are registered - so what difference does it make when you do it?

    Four months is totally fine.

I say Feb or so. We registered 2 months before the wedding and had several items discontinued, which was odd since nothing was seasonal or on clearance when we registered. Dont recommend 2 months before however, registry takes a bit longer than expected and really got in my way. Wished we would have done it 3 or 4 months in advance.

  • I would say go ahead and register within a few weeks before shower or wedding invitations go out.  I registered back in November for my April 21st wedding (partly so people could select registry items as Christmas gifts) and just asked the associate to make sure my china pattern wasn't going to be discontinued within the next few months.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I'd go ahead and register.  I started all my registries online, then went to the stores in person, and then reconciled everything & made final adjustments online.  I just finalized everything this week, and our wedding is in May.

  • We're wedding date buddies!

FI and I registered around the holidays because we were both in town. Crate and Barrel was really good about pointing out what items were holiday items would be replaced by the new spring stuff. You can always keep track on the websites and make sure things are still available, especially as the pre-wedding parties start approaching.
