Reception Following Destination Wording (Invite Wording)

Morning,

Need some opinions here, my fiancee and I are having a destination wedding where it will be attended only by our immediate familly members.  We will be returning and having a reception 2 months later.  We are at an impasse on how to word the invitation.  Since this is more of a "party", I believe that both parents should be represented on the invitation, she believes that since her parents are funding a majority (85%) of the wedding, that they should be listed as the hosts, with my parents possibly being on the invite under my name (son of so and so)...Neither one of us want to offend our parents obviously, and we're sort of stressed out on how to do this.  I don't think it should have anything to do with who is funding it, but a celebration of us, and honoring our parents, but need some help from you all.  Thanks.

Re: Reception Following Destination Wording (Invite Wording)

  • Traditionally, the hosts (usually the funding party) would be doing the inviting.  If the bride's parents paid, their names would go first and the groom's parents wouldn't be listed at all on a wedding invitation.  Adding "son of" is a relatively new addition.  If both parents are paying, they would both go on the top line or you use "together with their parents".

But this is not a wedding invitation.  It's a party invitation.  It doesn't make sense to make it as formal as a wedding invitation.  I don't think I would include parents at all on a party invitation, but if I did, it would only include the ones hosting.
