Sort of a Vent

So, today was the day - - FI left for his Vegas Bach Party trip this morning - - and almost missed his flight! lol...

Second annoying thing - - my caterer who (for those who remember) told me that for insurance purposes could not put wine and beer on the table, who then said beer would be an upcharge - - has now informed me that it was not part of my "package" to do this and that it would be $5.00 a person extra if we want it...that's an extra $1000+...I dont understand this being that I already have an open bar all night??? Does anyone understand their logic? Because to me it sounds like BS!!!

  • yeah that sounds like complete BS.  We are having red and white on the tables all night long included in our open bar.

  • They want to charge you an extra $5 pp just to have beer on the tables??!! I don't get it. What exactly is involved in having beer on the tables? Why would you guys want this instead of just having guests get it from the bar? I read your post from a few days ago but I can't remember all the details.

  • It's more of a cultural/traditional thing - - I am marrying an albanian  - - at all albo weddings they always put beer and wine on the tables, mostly because the older men do not like to keep having to get up and/or wait for a drink.  I really did not think this was going to be an issue so I never even asked her until we were finalizing our menu and contract details...I just dont find it fair...

  • Got it. Yeah, I seriously don't get the difference, and why they are charging you so much extra for it. If you have an open bar, they have to serve as much booze as your guests will consume, so what is the difference WHERE they serve it?? Makes no sense to me.

That is really bizarre.  Personally, I would save your $$ and just have guests go up to the bar to get their drinks. Are they at least offering table service for wine? At the majority of weddings I've gone to, the waiters come around with red or white wine to serve as needed.

  • That's how I feel...what a joke....

  • That sounds kinda ridiculous.  Wouldn't it be easier on their waitstaff, too, than having them constantly serving people from the tables?  (Assuming that they are serving people from the tables...)

  • Yea...exactly...its less work for them.  And what is the difference of having the beer on the table and a person walking up to the bar to get a round of beers for the table? I mean, I just dont see the logic - - I thought maybe I was the crazy one.

  • I mean, I am not looking to spend another $1000...I mean, that's just nuts to me - - plus, guests MAY or MAY not drink what's on the table, its more for convenience and for what these albanian people are used to.  If we cant, we cant...I however would still like to argue it a little with the caterer...it really sucks how they try to squeeze every last penny out of you.

  • Hmm... can you maybe tell them about FI's family's culture and how they expect to have beer on the table? Or maybe make note of the tables that would need extra service from the bar??

  • I explained that, she was only willing it to put it on the my FFIL table...what about the other 80 albanian guests.

  • Gotcha. I'm really sorry! That is so frustrating.  Hopefully you will end up convincing her otherwise.

  • Ugh, how obnoxious! I still think this is one of the most ridiculous add-on charges I've ever heard on TK. Fight it until the cows come home.

And OMG that is too funny - my fiance ALMOST missed his flight to Vegas last week, too! He was still on the highway out to JFK at 635pm and his flight left at 7pm. Somehow they managed to skip the line at the airport security and BARELY made it! Men are so bad with this type of stuff. :)

  • yes, this definitely sounds like a charge to where she can just charge you...I don't see how it is a liability thing or anything like that..doesn't make sense...
  • I think the liability thing is BS. They are just saying that, b/c they think you'll consume more pp this way, so they want to charge you for it. Our caterer actually offered to put stuff on the tables if we wanted, but we decided not to do it.

  • Bridetobe:  Is that so funny? I mean one of the guys actually did miss the flight and had to take the next one out ...he should be landing shortly and the partying will begin immediately, I am sure. LOL

I am definitely fighting this one...the more I think about it, the more mad I get!!!!

Same with my fiance! Of the 5 guys leaving from JFK, one of them had to check his golf clubs so he missed the flight! Too funny. Boys are so predictable. :)
