That isn't BSC, it is just plain stupid. You can't go filing taxes as married if you're not freaking married. . . even if you're engaged, you're "single" in the eyes of Uncle Sam. What is wrong with the education system in this country?? Plus. . . who is filing taxes in November? Gah!

I find that kind of hilarious. When FI and I are married, taxes are going to suck--we're going to get collectively bumped into the next tax bracket. Think I could get away with filing as single?

could be wrong, don't know a whole lot about taxes, but can't you file separately or jointly when you are married?

What makes you think BSCs can't be stupid too? Would love to see how her SO would react to that. LOL

You can, but you're still at the married rate rather than the single rate.
From about.com: In general, married couples will have a lower overall tax bill if they file a joint return. Also, couples filing separately will lose out on a number of important tax breaks. Nonetheless, filing separate returns makes the most sense when one spouse owes a significant amount of money, but the other spouse could get a refund. It also makes sense when one spouse is cheating on their taxes, and the other spouse doesn't want to be involved.

Wait but when you get married they take less taxes out of your paycheck right? So shouldn't that even things out once tax season comes around? I'm probably wrong but when I went onto a paycheck calculator website for my state I would be taking home significantly more dough each 2 weeks when I'm married. If nothing else you could just set that extra money aside each month since you're already used to living without it and that would be like your tax money. Someone let me know if I'm wrong because I don't know a lot about this.
