Printing Address Labels?

Hi - I'm so confused. Please help!

Can I print address lables for my invites (outer and/or inner), or is that a big "no-no?"

I read etiquette articles that say you ALWAYS have to hand write the addresses. Is that true? I've seen others come to me over the last year that have used address lables instead and one of my best friends is using lables with no hesitation.

What's the rule or concensus?

Background on my wedding, if that helps: We are having a traditional wedding in October. While not casual, we are getting married outside and not going "full formal." We also will have a vintage theme to our wedding overall.

I always prefer printing directly on the envelope to labels. It looks much nicer than the labels, but isn't much more effort.

Plus, I just don't think the labels look very nice. Having the address on the actual envelope, either hand-written or printed, looks much more put-together.

I would print on the envelope directly before using a label.

Some people also print on the envelope in gray using a script font and then trace over it in pen to give it a handwritten look while still looking nice and neat. Or if your envelopes are white and un-lined, you can print out the address on a separate piece of paper and trace through the envelope.

I'm planning to send envelopes through the printer and put addresses on that way. I don't really like the look of labels, and I'm not too keen on writing them out myself or paying someone else to do it. Some nice swirly fonts for the names and a more easy to read but pretty font for the actual addresses will give it flair and class. Shouldn't be too hard to set up in Word.

I used wrap around labels because our envelopes are black. The black envelope was the one request FI had for the invites. And, I didn't have the budget for a calligrapher AND I couldn't find a silver pen with a fine enough tip to do it by hand.

Regular labels of any sort, clear or otherwise, are just not appropriate IMO.

Regardless of etiquette (which says they must be hand addressed) I just don't think labels look nice. If I am putting a lot of time, money, or both, into my invites, I don't want the first thing people see to be not such nice looking labels. I don't personally have any problem with printing directly on the envelopes or other work arounds though. I will probably hand address mine b/c my handwriting is ok, but if yours isn't I'd run them through the printer in a pretty-- but readable-- font.

I decided to print that address of the recipient on the envelope and put our return address on an address label. I did it this way because I know my mom peels off the return address labels and sticks them in her address book.

For the return envelopes, since they're bronze and my printer can't print in white, I'm using return address labels but considered using a silver metallic pen at one point. I'm not too concerned about the return envelope labels because the majority of them are coming back to me and in the end I figured splurging and spending a lot of time on return envelopes would be silly.

I think if you use a nice font, you can get away with printing directly on the envelope rather than handwriting. I would not use labels though.

I think printing directly on the envelope would look nice and professional for invitations. I suppose it also depends on the formality of the event... Consider this, not having good handwriting, or the address being tilted.

However, what would be suggested or recommended for Save The Date cards?
