XP: Tulips Not Guaranteed?

The one florist I was talking to refuses to guarantee tulips for my June 1st wedding. I get that weather plays a factor and whatnot.

However, if I were to order them online, wouldn't they be guaranteed there? Like. They would be shipped from somewhere that IS warm enough to have them? I got them for my dad's funeral in early February last year.

I guess I'm torn on what to do here. Stick with a florist who is saying she can NOT guarantee the flowers I want in the colors I want (If I show up that day and I have a bunch of yellow tulips, I'm supposed to be ok with that when my wedding color is red?) or order stems online?

For what it's worth, I have someone willing to do my flowers FOR me, ordering the tulips myself. I was only talking to a florist to order stems from and possibly have her do the bouquets only (not the centerpieces or bouts or corsages) to take stress off of the person who volunteered, because I don't want to overwhelm her (she says she wants to do it and never said she'd be overwhelmed, it was just me worrying).

Re: XP: Tulips Not Guaranteed?

  • If you really want tulips, I guess you'll need to do them yourself.  FWIW, I wanted them as part of my centerpiece, but when I did a mockup, they were very droopy and my florist said there was no way to guarantee they would stand up straight.  So I nixed them.  You might want to talk to the girl that will be working with them first to make sure she is experienced enough to make them look like you want.
  • Part of what I love about tulips is their "droppy" quality. :)
  • I had tulips for my February wedding and they worked well since the weather was cooler.  Because tulips are affected by the weather so much, I can see why they are not guaranteed in June.  In warm weather not only do the tulips become droopy, but they also open up.  I love tulips when they are closed, but they don't look so pretty when they are all open.  If you really want tulips you should probably do them yourself and be okay with the fact that they might be open the day of your wedding.
