Occidental Grand Xcaret Resort

Good Morning Ladies,

We are thinking of booking our honeymoon at Occidental Grand Xcaret Resor.  Just wondering if anyone has been here?  I have read the reviews and for the most part they are good ones.

Re: Occidental Grand Xcaret Resort

  • My husband and I stayed there for a week back in December of 2009. It was nice, but we have stayed at better resorts in the area (Moon Palace and Grand Mayan). I think the main thing to know about this resort is that there really isn't a "beach" but only a "cove". It's right next door to XCaret and Explor if you're interested in going to those parks.

  • yes dh and i stayed there in dec 2010. we enjoyed it. imo it's worth it to upgrade to the royal section-we did and were SO glad!

  • We went in March 2010, it was pretty nice. I'm not sure I'd choose it for a honeymoon. There were a lot of kids and the food was horrible! I'm a picky eater, but he will eat anything, even he was disappointed with the food. If you do choose the Occidental Xcaret, bring straws! They do not have them at the resort because of wildlife preservation. Id say... Keep looking!
  • dh and i went there in dec 10 and stayed in the royal section. the upgrade is worth it. i didnt find the food to be disappointing except for the steak place but we ate at the royal side restaurant a lot and the food was excellent.
dont bring straws. you dont need them. it's an AI, you can get as many drinks as you want. the straws fly away and end up in the water and on the grounds. there's a reason they dont provide them....surely you dont need a straw to enjoy a drink.

  • Apparently I am the only one who drinks frozen drinks!  Very difficult to drink a frozen drink without a straw! Not one straw 'flew out' of our drinks, or ended up on the ground.  We brought them after a recommendation by the hotel, they did not mind at all.  And MANY people brought their own straws, so we were not the only ones who were told this.  It was also recommeded because they wash the dishes in water they do not suggest you drink.   The few other vacationers, who did not know about the straws, were offering to pay us for extras.

Liatris, I'd say your response was a little extreme.   I gave my opinion.  Thats what she asked for.  I'd be upset if I went there on my honeymoon, especailly if I had asked other for opinions.
