Motivational Monday 9/5/2011

I guess I'll start..

So.. Clearly from the ticker in my Siggy I've been losing weight.  It's been a big goal for me while H and I have been apart.  It sounds bad but, I don't want him to recognize me when I go to pick him up at the airport in Feb.  We will have been apart for more than a year at that point.  As most of you know, I work at Curves (the gym for women) and I cannot say enough wonderful things about that, butttttt I digress.  I thought for this motivational Monday I'd share some of my favorite quotes & stuff for my weight loss/exercise adventure.

"Nothing tastes as good as HEALTHY feels"
-I try to stress to myself & our members that it's not about being "skinny".  It's about being Healthy.  I will probably never be a size 2 and weigh 105.  Realistically I could weigh about 130-140 and be a size 4 or 6 and be healthy.  I was so embarrassed about how much I weighed.. I still get a little teary eyed when I think about, or talk about how I was so depressed that I would eat crap (Ice cream or cookie dough) and cry and sleep all the time.  I would go do a half-assed workout and go to the grocery store and buy Ben & Jerry's.  Now, that totally embarrasses me and I'm like "What was I thinking?!"  When I went to the doctor and stepped on a scale I was like mortified.  Embarrassed that I was so close to 200lbs. 200 POUNDS!! I'm 5'6.  It was not pretty.  My parents didn't even recognize me.  I cried one day talking to my mom because I was so miserable with my IL's, I missed my H so incredibly much, I couldn't find a good job, H and I fought all the time and I was going no where.. fast.  Lets fast forward.  I just turned 23 on Saturday and now I'm almost halfway to my ultimate goal!!  I've run two 5k's, work out religiously 5-6 days a week (Lots of circuit time on the days that I work), and eat healthy.  I've taught myself how to cook (and cook healthy things!) and I can honestly say I'm happier now than I really have been in a long time.  It's been an adjustment for H and I, but one that we're working through.

“We either make ourselves happy or miserable. The amount of work is the same.”

“Optimism is the foundation of courage.”
“Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do, but doesn’t get you anywhere.” this one makes me giggle, but it really touches me because I am such a worry-wart.

I don't know if this will motivate anyone, or if now you all just think "Wow, she was a big girl!" Just know that if I can do this, Anyone can!! If you ever need any health or fitness tips, feel free to PM.  I've learned alot in the past few months about Healthy living.

Anyone else? Motivation for Labor day?

    Sami!

    Thats so great! I'm impressed!

I have my own issues with weight. I had an eating disorder in college and can't seem to shake the thoughts that go along with it. I'm 29 and still struggle everyday.

Wow Sami! That's super impressive! I bet your H won't be able to recognize you :) You must be so proud of yourself..I dont even know you and i'm proud of you for making your self go do it! I don't have anything motivating but while we're on the gym/losing weight topic. I am a member of a women's gym in Winston-Salem but it's not Curves. I'm so afraid that once I move to Ft Bragg, I won't be able to find a good gym and will put on weight. There is a workout room at our apartment complex but it's just some machines and free weights. At my gym, I take a full body workout class 3 days a week and I've started doing a Zumba dance class and a Hip Hop dance class. And when I feel like it, I go run on the treadmill. I love that it's women only and has so many different classes. I hope I can stay motivated at Bragg and find a gym.

Is the gym your at a franchise? Maybe there will be one near base.  I'm sure there's a Curves near base.  And of course theres the base gym (but I kind of HATE base gyms... lots of sweaty guys or insanely fit girls who are all judgy..).  Plus Zumba is huge across the country so I'm sure you'll find that!!

I don't know if this is so much motivation but I have bug goals for the week. Life is rough when H works long hours. I'm responsible for everything so I'm hoping to do a good job with it this week. I'd like to go to the gym before school every morning, work hard at my school, be a good doggie momma after work and make dinner/clean everyday. Wish me luck :-)

Well, you all make me feel like a slob :). I was doing great with working out, up until my shower, then H came home, then the wedding, and I got soooooo off track. I have to get back on. I don't consider myself over weight or unhealthy, but for some reason the only place I gain weight is my stomach. No where else. It's annoying. I have to do some crazy cardio to help me with it.

But, my motivational quote, is "This too shall pass", and I have some others, but I have to think haha.

    "GOYA:  Get off your @$$"

My grandpa wrote me a card with this phrase, saying it is the secret to success.  I kind of love it.  Kinda sounds like you took his advice, Sami!  Now I need to take it.  Getting to CrossFit 3x per week has not been as hard as I thought, and since I hate it here and don't really have anyone to hang out with, at least it gives me something to do with my time until I can move!

    Thanks for sharing Sami!!
I have my own issues with weight/body image. In high school I had an eating disorder and I really struggled with it and came to find out I had a thyroid issue and because of that I literally gained about 20-30 pounds. My highest weight was 154lbs and I'm only 5'2"! Between FI's two deployments I managed to get down to about 130lbs give or take and would start BC and gain it all back (plus he was horrible about going to eat all the food he missed the most)... so long story short I'm really really trying to be overall more healthy and just eat better. It's hard to get into the gym for me. I've tried the 30 day shred -- and quite honestly.. it didn't really do much for me after about 3-4 days. I really really need to get my @$$ motivated and work my work schedule around going to the gym to be quite honest. Day time is the only time FI is home and I won't feel bad about leaving our puppy (i hate leaving her alone).
So thanks for getting me motivated and I think it's amazing that you've done so great!! I bet your H won't recongize you at all!!
