Does anyone else LIKE the look of tan lines?

I'm really pale, and I'm getting married in October, which is 4 months away. I have no desire to look brown, but I just started going to the tanning bed to get a base tan so tanning in the real sun will be easier. If I lay out in the real sun, all I do is burn and turn white after it fades.

Anyway, for some reason I've always liked the look of tan lines, like with dresses and stuff. It looks like the person got that tan in the real sun. So when I go to tan I wear my swimsuit. Also, when I tan in the real sun I'll be wearing my swimsuit, So I'd rather not have undefined, crazy looking tan lines.

I was wondering if anyone else likes tan lines, or am I just crazy and will look totally tacky in my wedding dress? lol

I personally don't advise it.  It's not going to look good in pictures.  Or anywhere else.

But hey, it's your day and if that's the look you want, well then, go for it I guess.

Here's a picture that might change your mind.

  • Tanning is SOOOO unhealthy.  Anytime you get a tan from a bed or the sun, you've damaged your skin.  And I don't like tan lines either.
  • I've heard of guys thinking they're sexy - they point out that you're seeing what should be covered up. But I'm guessing your important parts will be covered, so yeah, I'd try to avoid the tan lines...

Also, you might try a mystic tan. I had my first one recently and loved the results! Plus, I don't have to worry wrinkles and sun spots (and skin cancer, of course!)

  • I've also heard of guys thinking they are sexy but I think they look tacky on your wedding day. Tan lines in your pictures. yuck. Maybe just this once you can do without the tan lines and after the wedding get as many as you'd like :)
  • Personally, IMO tan lines look tacky for a wedding dress.I went to a wedding where the bride wore a strapless dress for her wedding and had a halter-like tan line from her bathing suit.. not a good look.

Not a big tanning fan, and definitely not a fan of tan lines.  If you show up with tan lines at your own wedding, I'd think you never grasped how the sun works and assume very poor "tanning planning" on your part ;)

It's not the end of the world if you want to lie out occasionally in the natural sun with proper SPF - enough to get a nice "glow" to your skin.  But wear a bandeau top or let the strings down.  Sorry, but I think you'd really regret it in the future if all of your wedding pictures have tan lines in them.  They're really an eyesore :(

    This cracks me up.

But ditto everyone else.  No tan lines, not for your wedding.  Let your new H see your tan lines, he'll like that.  And I like the Mystic Tan idea, plus you can get it a day or 2 before - if you're sprayed slightly darker, it will fade to the shade you want for your wedding.
  • Tan lines in a wedding dress?  NO.  Not a good look.

[QUOTE]I'm going to have to be a little different here.  It's not that I just overly LIKE the look of tan lines, and purposely try to get them, but for me personally, I don't care if I have faint lines.  I would not be myself if I got a spray tan, faked it at the electric beach, or only wore tube tops to avoid the lines.  When I look back at pictures, I want to see ME, and if that means a few tan lines, so be it.  I work out nearly 7 days a week, and spend a majority of it outside.  Even with sunscreen, they are inevitable on me.  But I don't care.  I'm not knocking anyone for covering them up, say with a spray tan, because on your wedding day, you should do WHATEVER you want that will make you feel beautiful and special.... but I just know for me, it's not going to matter.  I've always said that I will look back and remember how hard-core fit I was (and that's what lead to the lines), and hope that as I am remembering that, I still am that way :-)

Good point!  I get faint "lines" every summer from working out.  But it's more like my face and shoulders are darker than my back and chest.  There isn't a hardcore line, it's more of a gentle fade... even with sunscreen.

I always have tan lines and my fiancé HATES them.  I have never had a problem with them.  However, for my wedding I do not want tan lines.  I would either go with a halter top for my dress OR get a spray tan.  I tan in the sun every now and then.I also have a good color all year round.  I am 100% against tanning in a tanning bed.  I did a speech over tanning beds and it grossed me out!
  • NO TAN LINES. If you feel it neseeccary to be tan on your wedding day ditch your bathing suit in the bed.

  • Really?  You like tanlines?  See, that is just weird to me.  I have been trying to avoid having tan lines all summer.  My neighbors probably think I am crazy watering my plants and pulling weeds in a tube top, but that is what I am doing to avoid tan lines in my strapless wedding dress!
