Color accents on wedding gown and not excited about the bow

I was originally planning on wearing a colored wedding gown, but found that it was pretty hard to find one in a shop, and I didn't want to order it online without first trying it on. So I ended up buying an ivory gown from a local bridal shop, that I pretty much fell in love with. My plan was then to add color accents to the gown (the same color as my bridesmaid dresses). There is a corset back that I was planning to make into red chord instead of ivory, and I was going to add some red crystals on the front.
Here is a picture of a dress that's similar to mine that David's Bridal carries:

While I love the dress, I am not all that excited about the bow. I was thinking about maybe replacing it with a large brooch or some kind of flower, but I just can't picture it and I'm not sure how it'll look.

Firstly, would it look tacky to have the red color accents?
Secondly, are there any suggestions for replacing the bow with something else?

  • I love that dress! I don't think it would look weird without the bow. I like CMG's idea for rosettes. A sparkly applique is always a nice touch.

I personally wouldn't want colored accents on my dress, but there is NOTHING "tacky" about it; it's all about your personal style and what makes you feel beautiful.  If you're nervous about the accents not being as timeless as you might like, I love the idea of wearing a stunning ruby necklace/earrings/bracelet (whatever) or bright red shoes.

But this is really up to you; dresses are very much a matter of personal taste.

  • I think the colored accents you mentioned will look lovely.  There is nothing tacky about them at all.  :)  I also like CMGr's suggestion of red gloves.  I swooned a little when I read that and imagined it with your gown.  I think it would be VERY striking and elegant.  However, that's a matter of personal taste.

And I think a sparkly brooch in place of the bow would look great.  Personally I love bows, but I can see why others don't.

  • My dress is similair, but it opens to lace bellowing out the bottom. Where the dress opens on the side there is a lace flower appliquette that looks super nice. Maybe you could consider something like that? The broach idea is really wonderful, you could possibly accent your train with matching crystals or appliquettes?
