invite wording for attire

Is it always nessecary to include the type of attire that the guests wear??  My wedding is a outdoors garden/waterfront wedding so i certaintily am not having formal attire by anymeans.  More along the lines of say semi-casual i guess?? Its a very beach oriented theme.  I want people to be comfortable but still look nice.

So do i include it on the invite at all or if i do how do you sugest i word it?

Thanks girls!!!

  • Instead of writing it on your invite, perhaps include it on your wedding website?

  • I put my attire on the website.  I put "cocktail attire" but still have a few people asking me to specify more.  I also put a note on there to bring a light jacket since it's on the water and might get a little breezy at night.

  • I put it on our wedding website as well. I've only seen it on invitations for black tie weddings.

  • I placed **Semi Formal and Cocktail Attire Requested** on the bottom of my invites... I would do both, if you have a website.

I feel a little old school for the website idea.I didnt have a website, think of the older generation coming- are they really going to go to a website??
