RSVP vis e-mail?

I'm trying to cut expenses where we can and was thinking about having our guests reply via e-mail (I'd create a custom e-mail address just for the RSVPs) instead of using the traditional reply cards; however, I will send reply cards to some of our elderly family members who are not very computer savvy.

We're wanting a relaxed and informal wedding so I was thinking the e-mail RSVPs would be ok; we're also doing our invitations ourselves & not sending save-the-dates either.

Thanks for any advice you can give me!

Re: RSVP vis e-mail?

  • My son and his wife used an email RSVP system.

They had a reception card insert that gave the details of the reception.  Just below that information, on the same card, they added (in slightly larger font) R.S.V.P....with the note: Please RSVP by XX/XX/XX at our website:   and then listed the website.

It worked very well for them.  They had a diverse mix of guests, with wide age ranges as well as geographic ranges, including out of the country.  They did have to track down a few people, but no more than did my daughter, who used the traditional RSVP system.

I do think that having the RSVP wording enlarged slightly did help for those who may have been looking for a traditional response card to mail.

I think email RSVPs by themselves are okay only as long as 1) the wedding is not formal and 2) there are no guests who are tech-phobic or otherwise don't have access to email.

If there any guests who can't or won't use email to reply, you're going to need printed or written RSVPs.
  • Thanks so much for the prompt responses! I definitely appreciate it :)
  • I'm using the knot rsvp for my guest!
  • I put a card in with our invitations that offered options to RSVP by our wedding website, email or telephone. The older generation might not be computer savey so we offered the phone option. It saved on expenses and time. Plus I have had problems in the past with the mail system so it eliminated that potential.
  • @hutchsl - I love the idea of offering a few options for people. Thank you!
