Bridesmaids dress

Ok so My Bridesmaids dresses are $196.00 with tax and shipping. Is that a lot in the bridal world?

I think it just depends on what your bridesmaids budgets are. I would ask them. Remember if they aren't off the rack they may have to be altered as well, so factor in that cost.

I found the average prices at bridal stores were anywhere from $80 - $220. The low end being Davids Bridal and the high end Priscilla of Boston. I think my girls paid $165 plus tax. And that was with paying extra to change the fabric.

You should ask your bridesmaids what they feel comfortable spending. That doesn't seem ridiculous but our opinions don't matter, theirs do.

As pps have said, you really should ask your BMs. However, to be honest and to give you a personal opinion, in this economy and considering all the other costs that go along with being a BM (alterations, shoes, beauty, bachelorette party, shower gifts, hotel for night of wedding, wedding gift, etc), I would probably feel like it was a bit too much to spend on a dress I'll wear once.

Have you considered checking out Netbride? I'm guessing you may have since you mentioned shipping in the total cost. We ordered our dresses from there and had a wonderful experience; plus we saved $40/dress compared to the bridal stores. They are able to source most designers, so chances are you can get that dress through them for much cheaper. HTH!

Bah! I went through so much trouble trying to find a flattering and cost efficient dress, but then the girls got all kinds of extra charges for extra length and for a plus size BM. So, thats an extra thing to look into if you are on a tight budget. Thank goodness all my BMs are going with the flow-I feel horrible they got upcharged.

I think thats fairly normal for pricing.  Ours were $205, I found that a lot of the ones that were priced below that looked cheaper and the fabric wasn't very nice.  There are plenty of lines that are priced in the high $200s and $300 range.  My bridesmaids helped pick the dresses so everyone was informed throughout the process.

I remember when I was in college a few years ago and I stood up in a wedding, I was not able to afford the dress at the time it needed to be ordered, so the bride offered to pay for it in the meantime until I could pay her. It was very helpful and nice of her to do that. She didn't do it for everybody either. Just a thought if you can afford to help any of them out who may be momentarily struggling until they can pay you back. I don't think that is a lot, I think it's average, but it may be a lot for some people at this particular time.

I don't think that's a bad price. I'm in two weddings this year; one dress is from JCrew for $141.99 (including shipping and got it for 20% off) and the other is a Bill Levkoff for $168.19 (tea length, not including alterations). I really hope that I'll be able to find something for my girls that is in that general price range!

My bridesmaids' dresses were about $125 or $140 (depending on the style they chose) from J. Crew.  I ordered them at the holidays when J. Crew had 30% off...the full price would have been $165 or $180 + tax.
