Need input on menu for vineyard wedding

Hi Ladies,

We are trying to decide on a menu for our Sept 2012 wedding at a Vineyard in Galena, IL.  The theme I'm going for is rustic elegance.

I really like the idea of serving Italian food family style (goes with wine and the atmosphere), but don't want the menu to seem to cheap or boring (although being affordable is a nice perk!).  What do you think of this menu:

Cocktail Hour Passed Appetizers

Bruschetta Trio

Diced tomato with basil and parmesan cheese

Goat cheese and roasted red peppers

Pesto with arugula and mozzarella and parmesan cheeses

Dinner

Caesar salad

Romaine lettuce tossed with parmesan cheese, croutons and Caesar dressing

Breadsticks

Chicken Fettuccine in a Creamy Alfredo Sauce

Spaghetti with Meatballs in a Spicy Marinara Sauce

Wedding Cake: Strawberry Champagne Cake with Vanilla Buttercream Filling and Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

We will also be offering our vegetarian guests a separate meal (plated individually), TBD what that will be.

TIA for your input! :)

My only suggestion would be to add a second salad--perhaps lettuce, tomato, cheese, and a vinaigrette. I only suggest it because a lot of people don't like Caesar (this was news to me until TK, but it seemed to be a really popular opinion). Otherwise that sounds great.

As someone with a big Italian family.... I love this menu and I know my family would love it too. Sounds yummy. I love the idea of Italian food family style because it would remind me of Christmas. I think it sounds awesome.

It sounds delicious, but IMHO dinner seems filled with heavy carbs.  I don't know your guests, but I personally get sick if I eat too much pasta, and tend to avoid pasta dishes.  If your guests are huge Italian food lovers, ignore me :)  I'm just trying to give you a different perspective.  Could you possibly do meatballs with a side of pasta, just to have more meat involved with that dish?

<div>This actually brings up an interesting idea: what if you did a big bowl of family style alfredo, a big bowl of marinara pasta, and then a big bowl of meatballs with sauce, and a bowl of grilled chicken? This would allow guests to mix and match the proteins with the starches in the proportions they want and would give vegetarians even more options?  It could get crowded on the table.  I still think your menu sounds great as-is though. </div>

And the vegetarians would need a non-caesar salad as well.

I wouldn't want to eat a long, skinny pasta with sauce in public.  It can get REALLY messy to eat.  Plus, I'd try to have something without pasta or wheat for anyone who needs a gluten-free option, or who (like me) can't have that many carbs.  I would totally chow down on the Caesar salad and bruschetta, but I wouldn't be able to eat my entree.

I agree that you should definitely check to see if any of your guests need a gluten free option. Have you considered having something like a wine braised beef roast with vegetables or something that might be a bit more Northern Italian? Might be helpful for those who don't like/can't eat a lot of pasta. Everything else sounds delicious though. But be prepared to have a lot of coffee because with that many carbs, the food coma could set in quickly!

So I'm really bad at remembering to check back on responses when I post!  Thanks for all the great input... definitely didn't think about the lower carb or gluten free options.  I'll follow up with our caterer and see what options there are for that.  Thanks everyone! :)
