Columbus Newbie!

Hello ladies!

Just thought I'd put a post up to introduce myself. I just became engaged about 3 weeks ago, and am diving headfirst into this whole planning thing. I'm living in Louisville, KY but planning a Columbus wedding next fall since that's where I grew up. Any tips for someone just starting out? I have a couple of appointments to see the Jessing Center and the Athenaeum in about a week and a half in hopes that one of them will become my wedding venue.

I'm super excited for all of this, and super nervous too. Can't wait to share my planning with you all!!

I think you are definitely on the right track. I know what it is like planning an out of state wedidng. H and I were living in GA and planning our wedding in central Ohio. At least you aren't that far away to make weekend trips back and forth.

Anyway, this board is a great resource although it has been a bit slow recently. I would recommend looking through some of the older threads of the vendor reviews that former brides have written. Also look in the married bios, as some (like myself) have reviews in there. I would also say pick up a copy of Columbus Brides magazine next time you are in town. You can get them for free at a lot of the bridal salons. I DON'T recommend requesting one be sent to you via their website as you will get lots of phone calls and junk emails from all of the vendors in it.

You definitely want to get your big things booked first: church/wedding site, reception venue (if different from wedding site), photographer/videographer (don't skimp on t his or you will regret it later), florist, and baker. Then all the rest of the stuff will fall into place.

Congrats & welcome! I've heard great things about both venues you're looking at, & I've actually attended a wedding at the Anthenaeum that was fabulous!

Missy is dead on with her advice! If you want to make searching through some of the older threads a bit easier you can use the search at the bottom to help too. We'll all be glad to help though!

Thanks everyone!

I'm lucky enough to know an excellent photographer through work (Ryan Glaze Photography) as well as a great dj I've worked with before through college (Ryan Smith) so I've got that going for me....and that's about it. I'm sure I'll be asking for tons of advice!

Hi there! It sounds like you're off to a great start. I am an out of town bride as well (St. Louis) and I was definitely very anxious to get a date/location secured. Now that I've done that I feel like I can breathe a little easier.

I've never been to either of those venues in person but the photos look beautiful. I don't think you could go wrong with either one! My only advice is to think ahead before you visit the venues and go prepared with a list of questions and ideas about what you definitely want/don't want.

Do you have a date/month in mind? Mine is next August.
