Questions

I am a little confused on etiquette and who pays for what...

*Flower girl dress? Do I pay for that or do the parents of the flower girl pay?
*Ring Bearer Tux Rental?
*Hair & Makeup for the bridesmaids and moms? I told them they have the option to do hair & makeup if they want. Should I pay for it or do they pay?

Also, gifts..

Parents gift ideas?
Bridesmaid gift ideas?
Groomsment gift ideas?

Also, when do invites go out? About 6 weeks before?

Ahh, so much to do before the big day. I was feeling really relaxed about it and now I am starting to feel the pressure!

Thanks for all the help!

Re: Questions

  • I'm not haing a ring bearer so I don't know etiquette for that but my mom paid for the flower girls dress, she is my niece and her grand daughter.
*Hair & Makeup for the bridesmaids and moms? If you are requiring them to get their make-up or hair done professionally, you pay for it. If it is an option to them, then they are responsible
Parents gift ideas? we are getting hankies embroderied with a quote from Etsy

Bridesmaid gift ideas? tote, scentsy plug in w/ their favorite scent and a mug. I am also giving them a pearl bracelet they can wear the day of but that's not considered part of their gift.

Groomsment gift ideas? FI is responsible for this
Also, when do invites go out? About 6 weeks before?

When does your caterer need the final count by? My RSVP date is a month before the wedding so I can track down missing RSVP. Most people are mailing their invites around the 2-3 month mark.

  • Attire for the FG and RB are usually the responsibility of the parents of said FG/RB, unless other arrangements have been made or offered.  It's a lot like asking a bridesmaid, attire is one of the expected costs unless otherwise specified.

As far as hair and makeup, if you are requiring they get it done professionally then you should pay.  If you are letting them choose whether they want a pro or not, it's okay to make it their cost since it's their choice.  It's nice if you can offer to pay, but not necessary.  FWIW, I'm paying 50% of their hair and makeup costs IF they want it done professionally.

Invitations should go out about 6-8 weeks before the event - any longer and people may procrastinate on their RSVP and forget to get back to you, any shorter and they may not be able to make travel plans.

As far as gift ideas...I'm still working on that one, haha!

*Flower girl dress? The parents of our flower girl paid for her dress but we chose something pretty inexpensive.*Ring Bearer Tux Rental? Same as flower girl*Hair & Makeup for the bridesmaids and moms? Like Ash said, if you are requiring them to have hair and makeup done, you pay.  If they have a choice to get it done or not, they pay.
    Also, gifts..
Parents gift ideas? wedding album after the wedding, hankies, jewelryBridesmaid gift ideas? shop like it's their birthday!Groomsment gift ideas? shop like it's their birthday as well.
As far as invites, most people are sending them out at the 2-3 month mark, depending on when your venue/caterer needs the final count.  I gave myself some extra time so that I could track down those that did not respond.

    All of this!

I sent mine out at the 3 month mark because of the vast number of OOT guests we're entertaining; some send them out later, but it depends on when your venue needs the final count.

Flower girl dress- her parents bought
Ring bearer- his parents would buy (mine is my son, so I bought his)
Hair/Makeup- I'm paying for because I WANT it done
Parent gifts- an album with the wedding pics in it
Bridesmaids- a tote with some of their fave things in it
Groomsmen- a tankard with their names on it
Sent our invites out on 8 week mark with RSVP date for 3 weeks before (have to have head count to caterer at 2 week mark)
