Getting frustrated...

I've been working hard at losing weight since the beginning of the year. My wedding is October 6th, and my goal is to lose 20 pounds by that time. However, my short term goal is to lose about 10 pounds before my dress comes in March. I was going at a pretty steady weight the past month or so, losing about a pound a week...however, I'm having the same issue I had over the summer when I lost 10 pounds. I stall out around the same weight (154-ish) and can NOT seem to get the scale down any further than that.

I'm working out 3 days a week, running about 1 1/2 miles. I'm keeping track of my calories on my fitness pal, and I'm making sure to eat my 1450 calories everyday. I'm also sure I drink 8 glasses of water a day...

I'm at a loss of what to do. Any suggestions would be very appreciated!

Re: Getting frustrated...

  • Keep up with the exercise.  You might find that you are shrinking in size, even though you are not losing the weight.  Also, if you can fit it into your schedule, you might want to increase your exercise by throwing in some weight lifting.  I hope you get through your plateau. :)

I'm sorry - That is frustrating. Maybe try to change up your exercises? Is there something you haven't tried like kick boxing or spin class or zumba? Maybe even try working out at a different time. I went from working out in the afternoon to the morning and I think it made a big difference. You said you run about a mile and a half - what about increasing that? Maybe you are plateuing because your body is too used to the routine. I know when I lost more than 10 lbs my fitness pal re-calculated my goals and my calorie intake changed by about 100. Keep at it girl!

  • I would maybe try upping your exercise from 3 to 4 days a week and see what happens. hang in there and keep going!

  • This happened to me a year ago!! I have some wonderful advice if you are willing to step out of your comfort zone.  Go to Bikram yoga.  If you would have asked me a year ago to go to yoga I would have shrugged it off, but a friend dragged me along and I became hooked.  I saw serious results after 2 weeks.  The heat just melts weight off, and I ate like crap!!!  Now I'm still eating like crap, and 25 pounds lighter than I was a year ago.  I maintain my weight now by going just one or two times a week.  I know some people say it's not "real" yoga, but I don't care what it's called - it still keeps me fit and healthy. Good luck to you :)  Don't give up in whatever you choose!!
  • ugh this is happening to me now, too. I hate plateaus, but knowing that you've gotten past them before makes waiting a *tiny* bit easier. One thing that works for me sometimes is having a day or two of eating more calories than usual - I think it shakes up your metabolism a little. Just don't overdo it too much!

  • Lift weights...
I will say it on every single thread on this board if I need to... Lift weights.  The benefits to women are increadible, and it helps you get through plateaus.

Also, add some High Intensity Interval Training (also called HIIT) to your runs... Going at a steady pace forever is not the solution.  Your body adapts.  If it didn't everyone who every completed a marathon would be a size 2.

  • I have been doing intervals....I'm doing a running training program that will enable me to run long distance, but the first few weeks is running/walking. I have enjoyed it so far and have felt that it has challenged me. I'm a Labor and Delivery nurse, so I work three nights (12 hour shifts) a week. It's been a challenge to encoporate exercise into my schedule as it is, so I need to stick with three days for a while until it become routine. At that point in time, I will seriously consider adding a fourth day to my routine...I more than likely will the closer my wedding gets.

As for weight lifting....here is my issue with that. Some of us are limited budget wise on what we can afford. I simply can not afford a gym membership on top of paying for my wedding. I can not afford to go out and buy free weights to have take up space in my tiny apartment. For some of us, weight lifting definitely isn't fiesable. I'm not saying I wouldn't do it should I have the resources, but....alas, I don't.
