I am not sure if all DMV's in NJ are the same but I just went to the DMV last week and they told me I had to go to Social Security first b/c they cannot put your social security number in with 2 different names.

You need a certified marriage license, current drivers license and a few other proofs for DMV that are listed on their site.  My SS office did not ask for a birth certificate but I had it with me just in case.

Not sure on DMV... still working on that one haha

SS- you need your certified marriage certificate and your passport. I also brought my birth certificate, but it wasn't necessary.

DMV you need your marriage certificate from the state.

SS- Marriage certificate, drivers license, and passport if you have one.

When I went to SS I did not bring my passport nor did they ask me for it.  I went onlne and printed out the form, filled it out brought my drivers license and marriage certificate and took it to the social security office.

For DMV, I brought the marriage certificate and whatever else I need to change my address because we had moved.

Both places were actually very easy.
