AW: Wedding checks!

This weekend I got a lot of things done for the wedding!  We ordered alcohol, our informational brochures and maps came for the OOT bags, I finished stamping the OOT bags and take out boxes, I made our bar menus (PIP), printed and framed the cookie table explanation (PIP) and made more than half of the table name cards (PIP).  We are doing table names for FI and I's favorite places in Pittsburgh; places that mean something to us or hold special memories.  With the wedding getting so close, its nice to see so many things get crossed off the to-do list!

Great checks! All of your paper products look terrific! Did you make the skyline icon yourself or did you download it from somewhere? I would love something Pittsburghish to jazz some of the oot paper things and dinner menus but don't have any graphic design type programs on my comp. I love your table name cards too! Ours is something similar as we're doing the names of favorite places we've traveled too (and will travel to on the HM!)

    Thanks for all the compliments!

Philly - The skyline is actually a stamp that an etsy person designed for me.  I could get you the sellers name/handle if you are interested!

GMC - I used some of this exerpt from a newspaper article:

An excerpt from “The Cookie Table: A Pittsburgh Tradition” by Suzanne Martinson, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Food Editor

You can have a designer wedding gown and tuxedo or hand-me-downs. You can have an “A-copy” guest list or just the closest of kissing kin. You can receive your guests at the fanciest restaurant or at a potluck at the firehall. But you aren’t truly a Pittsburgher unless you have The Cookie Table.

When we first moved here and a bride-to-be mentioned The Cookie Table, I was puzzled. “What do you need cookies for?” I asked. “At a wedding, you eat cake.”

Little did I know. The Cookie Table is as much a part of Pittsburgh as the Pirates and the Steelers and the Penguins. We may bleed black and gold, but at any event worth writing home about, we have cookies.

And most of these cookies are homemade by the mother of the bride, sisters, aunts, cousins and grandmothers. Sometimes both sides of the extended family get involved. Friends are also called into the fray. Happy to do it, in fact. The Cookie Table is, indeed, the gift of love.

Nobody knows the exact origin of the tradition, which has been exported to other parts of Pennsylvania, other states, too. It may be Italian or Slovak or Polish or Croatian or Greek. The Scandinavians may get involved, and the Indians, too. The Germans do cookies, and so do the Irish. If we’ve left anybody out (like the English), add them to the cookie equation. There may be no greater tribute to cross-cultural friends and marriages than The Cookie Table. It’s what makes America great; a medley of cultures taking the best from each. The best, in this case, being favorite family cookie recipes. When we researched the topic for the premier edition of the Food Section in 1996, we talked with more than 150 people. The cookies that emerged most often as the “must haves” on the table were: Pizzelles; Biscotti; Italian Anise Drops; Baklava; Cherry Cheesecakes; Thumbprints; Pecan Tassies; Apricot, Poppyseed, and Nut Rolls. And two indicators that Americans never stop innovating: Buckeyes and Hershey Kiss Cookies…

Remember, in Pittsburgh, people don’t wonder, “How was the wedding?” They ask, “Were the cookies good?”

    Sorry for the WOT, HTH!

Kim, where did you get the maps and brochures for your OOT bags?  I've been looking for something like that since I will have lots of OOT guests.  Thanks!

There is a website called visit Pittsburgh and if you click on the visitors guide tab on the left a drop down menu will appear right below it and one of the options is special occassion packs.  They will ship these to you free of charge, you'd just have to pay for the shipping costs.  They are called their PLAY brochures and include a map.  To give you an idea for us to have 50 shipped to Maryland it was $35.  My contact through them was Joyce Simile.

    HTH!

Philly - the sellers name is Trizonya.  She did a great job!  I did an alchemy post and she bid on it.  She did two stamps a small stamp (1.7 x 2.6 inch) and a larger one (7 x 2.5 inch) for $32.00.  She customized it and did several drafts for me!

    They look great, congrats!

Philly and Kime, we're also planning to do something similar for our table names- naming them after places FI and I have traveled together.  How are you actually displaying these on the tables?  Will they be framed and sitting on the table?  Are you also having table numbers to make it easier for people to find their seats?

Jen-I'm actually displaying the names of the places on wine bottles I've been collecting.  I bought labels for the bottles off of an Etsy seller and they turned out great. I figured it was a slightly different look than just doing picture frames and since so many on my side are sommelier wannabes they would love the look too. I'm not doing table numbers but I figure it people can't see the names of the tables from afar, it will give them an excuse to check out the names of the other tables (see all the places we've traveled to).

Jen - Our venue has the little stands that you would normally put the table number cards on so we are using that.  The green background paper is cardstock so it will stand up well.  That way they have good height and can be found easier.
