birth certificate

I just read online that we don't need our birth certificates to get a marriage license in Maine.  Is that true?  Just a photo ID?  I was just stressing because I know I have one somewhere, but I can't find it.  But if we don't need it, I will stop stressing :)

We didn't need it, and they actually didn't even ask to see our license. I think they look you up in a computer though to verify your identity. Don't stress about it!

ETA: I would check with the specific town to see what their requirements are.

We did not need our birth certificates, but a quick call to the town office will answer any questions you have.

Thanks girls!  I checked the state and the town website, but it was still stressing me out.  It's good to hear from people who've actually gone.  I'll probably call too, just to be sure!

When went there this week to register the truck she told me all I needed was $20 because she knew who we both were already.

MollySM, do you have a CA ID?  My finace and were born in Maine, but live in CA.  I was wondering myself if [having a CA ID] will cause issues.  We'll find out in a few weeks!

Seriously, ladies, just do as jaimebeth recommended and call the town you're applying for the license in! No need to stress or wait to find out. Then you can move onto stressing about bigger and better things :)

I don't have a CA id, I have a PA id :)  I moved here almost 2 years ago - it's really time to get a new one.  According to the websites it doesn't matter.  It talks about if you come from Maine, or if you don't.  It also says you don't have to get the certificate in the town you're getting married in.  Once you have it it's valid anywhere in Maine, for 90 days.  I'm going to call to confirm this, but all the websites (the maine gov't site, the town I'm having the ceremony in site, the town I'm having the reception in site) say the same thing.  So it sounds true!
