registered at too many similar places?

hi girls!

so i'm registering at pottery barn, williams sonoma, bed bath & beyond, and crate and barrel.

after looking around, i'm realizing that williams sonoma, bed bath and crate are all very similar in items.

is this a bad thing? i mean, it's not like i'm registering for 2 different juicers or anything, but i like certain things at one store that i don't like at another.

anyone have any opinions on this? thanks!

Registering at similar stores is fine, but you really shouldn't register at more than 3 because it starts to look excessive and gift-grabby.

Usually any more than 3 registries is considered gift-grabby, so I would try to condense one of them into one of the others (like C&B into BB&B).

i've read everywhere, including theknot.com that normal registeries contain 2-4.

Not too concerned with the number of registries you have, but if you have one place that only has a few items, why don't you save that place as a cash place - like when you do get $$ from the wedding that can be the first place it goes? I mean it does seem like a lot to me and a lot of the same, but if you can eliminate one it might be ideal.

Yeah, in my mind 4 registries is one too many. 3 is fine, but 4 seems gift grabby unless you are having a REALLY big wedding (like 300+ guests).

The other issue as PP pointed out: are any of the registries particularly small? if you have less than 25 items on any one of them, I'd try to close it and register for similar stuff at one of your other stores. This also gets you to 3 registries which is preferable in my mind.

FYI gift cards from Williams Sonoma are usable at Pottery Barn because they are owned by the same company: Williams Sonoma Inc. I would skip C&B OR BB&B if I were you, since the gift cards from WS can be used in multiple places. That's what I did.

JoyMatt...thanks for the info, I didn't know that. I just nixed the idea of a registry at C&B and went with W-S instead. Love the siggy.

How much are you really going to have on each registry if they are similar? We have a wedding coming up where the bride and groom are registered at 3 places. One has about 15 items, one has about 40 items, the last has 6. They really should have skipped the other place, because it was a waste of time to look--it was nothing elaborate or unique to that store.

Stick with 3 max.

If you register at a place because it has the things you want, it doesn't matter how many items you register for. It could be 6 or 600 and your guests will either look at it or not. If they're smart guests they'll realize the 6 items must be ones you really want because you actually set up a registry at that store for them. I don't think the number of registries you have indicates whether or not you are "gift grabby". Its the NUMBER of items on each registry that really tells your guests how materialistic you are.

I really think the only thing that can be annoying is the inappropriateness of gifts requested. I don't think it matters how many places you register or how many items, but it does matter if you are a just starting out bride and have registered only for really expensive items that possibly many of your guests don't have. If you're just starting out, stick mostly with the basics - a few luxury items are OK - but you will use a toaster oven much more often than you will use a yogurt maker, and if you don't have servicable dishes, you don't need the Lenox china, at least not yet. You grow into those items. Also you have to consider your guests and their financial situation. If most of your friends and family are multi-millionaires, register at Bloomingdales, but if your friends and family are of more modest means, they want to feel they are giving you a generous gift so select your registry and items items on it accordingly.
