Just Engaged and Proposals

Long Distance Engagements?

Hiiii i was just wondering if anyone else here is going through what i am right now and being separated from your fiance for a long period of time...

I am American and my fiance is Scottish, he was in America for the entire summer working but had to go home a month ago when his visa expired... he proposed to me at the airport before he left!!! it was so amazing and sweet and left me so happy whereas i am usually devastated when he leaves, but it also means i haven't seen him since we became engaged and still have a month to go before i visit him for a week over christmas...

i try to keep a positive attitude, but sometimes it becomes very hard, i just miss him so much every moment, especially at night when i am not distracted by my busy work/school schedule...

just wondering if there was anyone else who could sympathize and is going through the same thing...

Re: Long Distance Engagements?

  • Been there, done that, survived and now happily married.  Take advantage of the internet, e-mail, phone and webcams.  Try to keep the communication lines going as much as possible.  You'll get through it :)
  • We're not engaged yet, but BF is in Asia for a few months. It is really hard, especially since his internet connection is spotty and we can rarely Skype or see each other. I know he bought the ring before he left, and I kept thinking he was going to propose before he left. I'm not sure which is worse, being engaged and being long distance or waiting to be engaged and being long distance lol. They both suck a lot.

But at least you have something to look forward to at Christmas!! It's really not that far away! My only advice would be try and develop your own interests and hobbies and get really passionate about something that you can put all your frustrated energies into :) Good luck!! Christmas will be here before you know it.

  • I'm right there with you!  I'm used to it because my boyfriend travels a lot.  (He is an Olympic Athlete and is constantly in different states and countries for competitions and training camps!)

I'm a little worried because our plan is to get married right after the 2012 Olympics, which means he will be away for most of the year preceding our wedding!  Good think I like to plan and he's easygoing!

  • I am in the same boat at BplusA, My FI is in Kuwait with the Military. He left in Sept of this year and won't be back until Sept of next year. We are getting married October 22 next year. So JUST after he gets back. The only advice I can give you is to keep busy!! Find things to do with your time. It really makes you think about him less, and in the end makes things easier on both of you. You don't want him worried about you either.
