Who's tried it?!

I'm going tonight for the first time.  Looking forward to it!

Re: Zumba

  • I kind of want to try it but am pretty sure I'll look like a total idiot.  So I haven't worked up the nerve to yet.

  • I did some Zumba over the summer. It was pretty fun but wasn't enough of a workout for me when I was trying to lose weight. So I started taking more intense cardio classes. If I had extra time (ha what's that?) I'd take it just for fun. My advice is don't get frustrated if you don't get the steps the very first time. You'll catch on.

  • I go 4 days a week and I love it.  I also think it depends on the instructor.  I like two instructors better than one

  • I am tagging along with my GF.  It's a private instructor - not at a gym.  So, we'll see.  I might join a gym and then just go to their zumba classes.  hopefully I'll like this girl.  My GF is quite happy with her.

  • I have the videos but I haven't started them. I think I want to start taking a class. I think I would be more motivated doing it that way. My aunt took classes and loved it and now she does the videos on her own.
  • I really like it. I've only ever done it once, but the UREC here always has a good class. It makes you feel super sexy =)

  • I did it at my Y for several weeks, but I never felt that I lost any weight/ gained any tone, but it was a lot of fun!

  • I tried it for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I loved it! I looked like a complete idiot, was always 2 steps behind everyone else, and fully understood how completely uncoordinated I am, but it was so much fun! My schedule hasn't lined up so that I have been able to go since then, but I'm looking forward to the next class!

  • I've gone to the classes at my gym and I agree, it definitely depends on the instructor. Our normal instructor was gone a few times and her fill-in was pretty lame. The class definitely was not as fun and I feel like she didn't have the high energy and therefore we didn't have higher energy. I feel that its a great workout, and lots of fun. Hope you like it!

My best advice is to worry about keeping moving.  Worry about keeping your heart rate up, and don't be too concerned about doing the wrong moves.

So you're telling us she's a private dancer? A dancer for money?

I like zumba. It reminds me of Gymboree for adults. Way more fun than kickbox cardio.

  • It's awesome! I love it!
  • You all know I love it! I've noticed more of a difference in my body shape with Zumba more than any other workout I've done. It TOTALLY Depends on the instructor. Our two regular instructors kick our ass on the daily. The substitue they have? Not so much.

I will also say that I think the toning comes more when you know the moves because then you're more focused on the muscle part of it more than the moves. My core hurts when we're done.

The girl next to me tonight is about 5'5'' and maybe 120 lbs soaking wet and she burned 600 calories during class tonight, but we've had people burn way more, too.

    It's awesome.

  • I agree with PPs- it depends on the instructor.  With the instructors at my old gym, I burned approximately 500/class.  With the sucky instructor at my new gym, I burn 350 max, and that's me putting in the extra effort.

  • I adore it, but I agree that it depends on the instructor.  A few of my friends hated it and I couldn't understand why.  At that point I had experienced 3 different instructors and liked them all - two better than the third, but still the third was fine.

Then I got a bad instructor.  Ho. Lee. Hades I hate that woman.  So much so that I've quit taking her class even though I paid for 10 classes upfront.  I will now stick to the instructors I know and like, thankyouverymuch!
