To Veil or not to Veil...

I have a question about veils. After the ceremony do you remove the veil for the reception or do you keep it on? I have seen it done both ways, but I heard that removing the veil is more appropriate, thoughts?

Re: To Veil or not to Veil...

  • i'd go with whichever is more comfortable for you. it also depends on the length... i can't imagine you would want to keep a cathedral length veil on all night. i had a fingertip length veil and kept mine on through the ceremony and pictures and then took it off before we were announced into the reception. i'm glad i did because people would have ripped out while hugging me... and they were hugging me all night long.

  • It's completely up to you.  My sister took hers off right after her ceremony, but I had a friend that kept hers on all night because she felt it completed her look.  I plan on taking mine off after the ceremony.  That is, if I even wear one.  I'm not sure I'm going to have one at all to be honest.  Outdoor ceremony, and the last thing I want is my veil flying around while I'm saying my vows!  Plus, I haven't decided if I like them on me yet!  Anywho...do what you like best!
  • Thank you all so much for your posts! I don't know what I would do without you! here's to happy wedding planning! no veil during the reception....please don't let it be windy during the ceremony ;) Thank you so so so much again!
  • I am wearing a cathedral veil for the ceremeony, but removing it for the reception.  I may have some jewled hairpiece, but a cathedral veil is not something I want to drag around all night.

  • Same as everyone else pretty much, wearing it for ceromony, and pics and I think the 1st dance and then after that I am taking it off. I jjust want to be comfortable and be free to dance the night away! :)
  • I was going to wear my veil through as much of the reception as I could before it became annoying. However, throughout various pics, my veil kept getting accidentally tugged. By the end of the formal pics, it was pulling on my hair and hurt so bad I took it off immediately after the last pic.

I say, do what you want. Just remember, you won't have the veil on for the first dance, cake cutting, and other reception photos if you take it off early.
