July 2013 Weddings

Am I the only one..

Who thinks I don't have to have all kinds of things done 14 months before my wedding? I'm an organized gal and on top of it, but am quite shocked at what's been completed and handled by everyone else on this July 2013 message board. Is everyone just super hard core or am I missing something?!?!

Hoping I'm not the only one pacing myself...

Re: Am I the only one..

  • Lots of girls here don't have all of it done yet. Personally I'm the type that hates waiting. We knew we wanted something specific like our photographer and venue and we didnt want to chance not getting them. But things like transportation and accessories have waited because I have no friggin clue what to do lol Don't stress about it! Have fun and everything will come together.

Besides venue, photographer, and church, I have nothing planned out officially. I'm trying to hold off on a lot of things because I might change my mind! I'm also surprised by what people have done so far sometimes! Such as, the posts lately about STDs. I'm not planning on those until fall or so mostly because we're not having engagement pictures until then. Everyone is doing really well here on getting things done, but don't feel like you are way behind because you haven't even thought about something yet! Plenty of us are right where you are at :)

  • You aren't the only one! I have the church, hall, photog, and my drtss but that's where I've stopped. FH and I are moving out of state and wanted to get as much of our meetings and stuff we needed to do in person out of the way before we were 1000 miles away. As for everything else, I'm waiting.
  • OMG, another San Diego bride! I'm excited! The last poster (kay) is also S.D. I love it. McRogol, when and where is your wedding? Anyway... don't stress about where everyone else is at with their planning. I know it's easier said than done, but everyone plans at a different pace - at least that's what I have to keep telling myself! Hehe. We have not even booked our venue yet, thus we have not booked anything yet. We want to have our ceremony at Sunset Cliffs but the City of San Diego doesn't allow bookings until 12 months in advance... so we are waiting for this coming July.

  • You're fine not planning so early, we're all in different stages of the planning, and everybody has their own reason for where they are.  I personally have quite a bit booked (most of my vendors) because I'm a student planning a wedding in my home town, so things I don't book in the next few weeks while I'm in town during summer will have to wait for the next time I'm in town, which will be only six months before the wedding.  It's good that you're pacing yourself, but everyone is where they are in the planning for a reason.

Enjoy planning, at whatever pace makes you happy :)
  • I am having a destination wedding in July 2013 and I feel like I should be doing all these things NOW... but at the same time I feel like maybe i don't nee to be trying to get people together and doing stuff now. I am an a-type personality. so I feel like I need to do it all.. But should I be doing it all this early, or waiting.  It's all that's on my mind.. Mind you this is my second wedding (to the same person).. first wedding no dress or ANYTHING.. so this time it's like doing it the right way and for the LAST TIME..

  • I have a photographer and venue (and food and officiant because that comes with the venue). That's it. I'll think about booking a DJ and maybe start looking at dresses over the summer - closer to the year mark. The only other things I might think about before 6 months out are flowers and cake. Small details, paper items, etc., can all wait.

    Life is good today.
  • I know how you feel because my FSIL is getting married in May and is totally on the ball which has my mom convinced that we are behind, but I know I'm not at all.  What I have done so far is booked our DJ, string quartet, ceremony/reception venue, and we put a deposit on a house that is on the same property as ceremony/reception site.  I made my first inspiration board today, and I think I'm starting to narrow down what I like as far as flowers, colors, and style of decor.  I have my first appt to find a dress this weekend (mostly to quiet everyone who insist I should be looking for a dress lol), but I figure it can't be bad to at least start getting ideas.
  • I agree with  Getting2Vowels!  While I have gotten a good start on planning, it is because I hate waiting, our wedding is 7/5 so we are trying to make sure we respect everyone holiday weekend and give advance notice/book now, and lastly, I want to concentrate on the job search/move in the last 5 months rather than details of the wedding. As PP said, everyone has their reasons. I do plan to slow down after the end of this month and pick back up in September, just to enjoy my summer.

You are fine. Go at your own pace, do things your own way. Its better that way.

  • I have the venue, photographer, DJ and hotel all figured out and booked.  The main reason why I jumped on them is because we've been engaged since May 2011 and I have been waiting and waiting since then to get things started.  Plus I'm in New Jersey and on a tighter budget (a bit under what the average for NJ) so I didn't want the important, budget-priced vendors to get snatched up.  I figure if we can make these decisions before someone else, I won't have to go with someone who costs more or is less personable.

However, I think you're right on track.  I'll be honest that some of the timelines that are out there make me a little nervous with how close to the wedding things get done (ordering dresses being a big one).  Not doing anything until after you're past the year mark doesn't seem to be a big deal though.

  • No.  But even if you were, I wouldn't worry about it.  Plenty of couples plan weddings in just a few months or less.  I have a lot of *ideas*, but I've probably only spent $20-30.  $20-30 isn't a commitment to much of anything.

Hi!  We're actually getting married back east - it's where we're both from and where the "old people who can't travel" live.  But truthfully we're still New Englanders at heart, so are quite happy with it!  I photographed a wedding across the street from Sunset Cliffs - it was amazing!!!!!  Good luck with your planning!

That's great! Where in New England will you be getting married? My only experience in NE was Boston in September and I loved it there. Thanks for the well wishes!

  • I have only spent 30 bucks on some color swatches to help me decide on the color of my bridesmaid dresses.  We know the dresses for me and my bridesmaids but don't want to order them to early. We do have the reception hall tentatively set but we don't have the church. We figured we shouldn't book the reception until we are allowed to book the church, which only allowes 12 months before the wedding date for booking.  Other then that we know our baker, florist, and caterer but again nothing is "set".

So, don't worry I've felt the same way many times already with everyone here but noticed like mentiioned earlier that we all have our different reasons.  My FI is in school and I am going to be taking my CPA in the fall so we need to get things done by September so that I can take a mini break till January maybe February

  • dont feel bad. im in cali and working on a venue now for ga.  im also relocating. at this time i wont be going to ga till sept since thats when FI vacation is.  im doing small things that can be taken care of now.
  • All planned in My head its executing it that is the problem. I am not in a rush right now I figure that my crunch time will be closer towards Nov-Dec. And then Mike and I will really lock in some solid plans.
