inexpensive venue

Hi.  Does anyone know of an inexpensive venue under $80 pp for a reception that is decent?

Also, are you referring to $80/pp for catering alone, the rental fee alone, or both?

Yes I am on the right board.  Me and my fiance live in LA, she is from New Jersey and I am from Orlando.  We've looked for places in New Jersey, but the budget set for us is ridiculously low.  So I wanted to check venues in the Orlando.

We are looking at around 120 people.  Indoor or outdoor, it doesn't really matter.  $80 pp for catering alone.

I have a final four list of my places and they are all under $80pp.  Celebration Golf Club, Harmony Golf Preserve, Lakeside Inn, and Lake Mary Events Center (the last one you bring in your own caterer, so price depends on who you select). They are all wonderful.

Something I learned that is really important is, get your "absoulte highest" and your "ideal" price in mind.  DON'T GO BY WEBSITES.  Go talk to the venues or call them if you are out of town.  Tell them your ceiling and your ideal.  All the places I looked were out of my budget and I just said "this is what I have to spend and this is what i want" and they all made it happen!!  Places know we are in a recession right now and they have been ridiculously accommodating to make it work.  =)

Dubsdread, Winter Park Farmers Market, Lake Mary Event Center, Leu Gardens- All very popular choices, pretty, and reasonably priced.

Dubsdread has food there, the rest you can pick your own caterer.
    Good luck!!!!

Casa Feliz - the rental fee is $2k, the most expensive catering menu is about $65 or $70/pp, I think...

I just got married there and LOVED it!

We are getting married at Dubsdread and it is a great option!  You don't have to worry about finding a caterer and they are great to work with.  Good luck!

Royal Crest Room at the Royal St. Cloud Golf Links n St. CLoud. It is a golf course and you can have your wedding ceremony outside and the reception inside! Im getting married there in July and absolutely LOVE it!

I second Lake Mary Events Center. I am getting married there and my catering pp is only $25, but I also chose the lowest level. The prices go up from there, but they are well below $80 pp. I am using John Michaels catering. You have to choose from a list of caterers that Lake Mary allows you to have. Good luck hunting!

I'm guessing what's "inexpensive" in NJ is definitely not the same as in Orlando. I'm with Britt, looking at about $25pp for food, and I think we're considered "inexpensive". My goal is to come in under $4000 for catering for about 100 people including bar setups, fees and gratuities. For $80pp, you have tons of options. The only places that may be out are big fancy hotels.

    Ashbosity,

Who are you using for your catering?  Are you having a buffet or a plated dinner?
  • edited December 2011
Ashbosity is getting married at the same place I am, so I think she may be considering the same caterer as me. All of them are pretty competitive with each other so they will all be around the same price. Hope that helps!

Also, my caterer offers both plated and buffet at the same price. I'm guessing most of the Lake Mary Events Center caterers would also.

Sorry, I didn't get back sooner. Britt is right. Most of the caterers that are approved for Lake Mary Event Center presented me with options starting at $22-25pp. Most had little or no difference in price for a single entree plated or two entrees buffet style. We are looking at a buffet because everyone has a better chance of getting hot fresh food that way and they can also have a variety. For a few $$ more per person, you can get pasta or stir fry made to order on the buffet or a multitude of hor d'ouevres for your cocktail hour. We haven't picked a caterer yet since the wedding is almost a year away still, but I would suggest looking at a few caterers' websites. Some have prices posted. Look out for hidden costs like paying extra for linens or to use real china or cake cutting fees. The ones we are considering are: Levan's- www.levans.com, John Michael's (also Britt's caterer)- www.johnmichaelevents.com, and Puff 'n Stuff- www.puffnstuff.com.  All of these companies gave me a buffet with two entrees, two sides, a salad, all linens and china included, cake cutting fees included for under $25pp. Most also offer discounts for children if there will be kids at your reception. I have heard good things about Arthur's- www.arthurscatering.com but I was quoted starting at $48pp with alcohol setup and fees, which is way over my budget. Hope this helps. Good luck!
