Raleigh Bride

Hi guys!

Introduction first--I've been stalking the boards for awhile, but this is my first "post".  My fiance and I have been engaged for almost a year, and we weren't going to have a wedding until 2012, but due to some fortunate luck, we are going to be getting married next year!!

I live in Virginia now, but I grew up in NC and went to school at NCSU.  We are heading down on Friday to take a look at a few venues that I have my eye on.

Here's my questions:

1)  who else is getting married around Raleigh in August of 2011?
2)  Any recommendations for a venue that can hold at least 150 and isn't too extreme in price.  I know it's a big guest list, but I still have a budget and I'm hoping to stick to it!!

Thanks everyone!

Jenny

Welcome Jenny!! Congrats on your engagement and im glad you can join me for the 2011 wedding list (im getting married Sept 2011). What type of venue are you looking for? Are you looking for a place that included catering or allows outside catering? A few good venues are:

    Angus Barn Pavillion
Carolina Inn(im getting married here next year and they have plenty of space)
The hall at Landmark in Garner
Hudson Manor(all inclusive venue for a great price)
    Matthew House
    Brier Creek Country Club
    Rand-Bryan House

I'm no help for Raleigh venues, but I just wanted to welcome you to the boards!  I'm sure you will find tons of help here from the Raleigh locals.  Everyone is so wonderful and helpful!!!  Best of luck with planning all the little details!

Congratulations Jenny!  I'm a summer 2011 bride too (in June) - it's a good time to get married :)
We are getting married in Raleigh as well and have about 150 people on our list :) and we've looked at a lot of places, so if you have questions I would be happy to help!
We decided on Sister's Garden because it seemed to us the best value for our money - it's more than we were thinking about spending, but we really wanted an evening reception and those are kind of expensive everywhere.  Some other places we considered:
-Caffe Luna (no Saturday evenings, but their prices are reasonable)
    -NC History Museum
-The Angus Barn Pavillion (like jmp0930 suggested - it's really gorgeous!)
    -1705 Prime
    -Rand-Bryan House
    -Hudson Manor
    -111 Place in Cary
    -Matthews House in Cary
    -The Royal

If you're looking at Durham venues too, the Cotton Room is stunning (kind of pricey, but a great venue!)

You said you're a State grad, right? I think the Alumni club at State has some sort of reception area you can rent as well - I bleed Carolina blue, so I don't know much about it :) but I think someone posted about it a while ago.

That sounds like something you should get checked out.  There's a good hospital out in Durham, you could have that looked at ;)

Welcome, Jenny.  I'm in Raleigh but not getting married here, so I'm not a ton of help for Raleigh locations.  Good luck, and stick around!

ETA: just based on the title I figured you were looking for venues around Raleigh, but I saw your other post about the Aquarium...are you open to other areas of the state, too?

    Welcome to the board!

Just wanted to say hello and congrats! I agree with the suggestions already given and highly recommend checking out 'The Rand-Bryan House'. It's in Garner NC, but only about 15 from raleigh.

My husband and I got married there this past Feb and it was absolutley amazing, plus, Marth (The owner) was a complete sweetheart to work with :o)

It's large enough for 300, but accomedates smaller groups wonderfully. We had 60 come and it didn't look empty or anything.

Again, congrats and welcome to the board! These ladies are amazing.

    I'm Beka btw :o)

Hi Jenny--congrats.  State actually has two alternatives.  One is the University Club, located on Hillsborough Street, which is nearing the end of a major renovation.  The second is the State Club, which is only a couple of years old and is located on the Centennial Campus.  They have very different feels, but both are worth checking out.  I didn't realize the extent of the University Club's renovations, so I only looked at the State Club and that's where my reception is.  I think you could put together an event for a reasonable price there, depending on what you choose to serve.

I also thought the Royal on Hillsborough Street was really cool, but too small for us.  It was very reasonably priced, and I think there was a good selection of vendors to choose from.

    Hope that helps.  Barbara

My reception was at The State Club, and it was fabulous.  But, it can be pretty expensive, depending on your choices there.  Check out my bio/blog for pictures and info.

Welcome Jenny! I'm also Jenni. :)

I'm getting married in May 2011 in Durham at Treyburn Country Club.  We looked at having our wedding in Raleigh at 1705 Prime. We loved it there but there dates didn't work out with our schedule.

    Good luck in the planning!

Congrats and welcome.  I think the gils covered the nice places around raleigh/ durham.  The only other one I can think of is at the American Tobacco campus in downtown Durham.  It's really nice.

    Hi Guys!

Thanks for all the welcome chatter :)

We are actually heading down this weekend to look at a few places--checking out the State Club and both Cameron Art Museum and the Museum of Life Sciences.  Waiting on whether two other places can meet up as well!  Thanks for the advice on The University Club!  I'll have to see if we can swing over there after looking at The State Club.

I've looked into a lot of places you guys listed out and some of them were kind of beyond our price range for the value.  I love the look of places like Bay 7, but after talking with them and finding out how little comes with the price tag, I decided against that.  Same goes for Angus Pavillion and  the Cotton Room.

Pirategal--we've been engaged for almost a year now, and the original plan was to get married down at the Outer Banks.  After really investigating the options, it doesn't feel like it meets all of the needs we have.  I love the idea of a wedding on the beach, but my fiance just doesn't want that--he was actually in Iraq for 2 tours in the army--so sand isn't his favorite thing. (compromised for an outdoor ceremony Laughing).  But, I think Raleigh is going to be the place.  We're still considering other areas though!

Anyways--I love being able to chat on here and getting some advice!  I'll be happy to show the love when I can!!!

Well that makes lots of sense, I just was being nosy and looking at your other posts :)

When my friend and her FI were planning their honeymoon he was stationed in Iraq.  He said the only thing he cared about for their trip was that they "go somewhere without sand" :)

I think you'll be able to find a beautiful place in the Raleigh area :)
