Universe Bride

Has anyone been dress shopping at Universe Bride in Coshocton? The reviews seem to be polar opposites, some people love it, some hate it, so I can't decide if i should make the 2 hour drive...

How is their selection? How are the prices?

I got my dress there.  It is a huge shop and has roughly 30-40 designers.  There were so many beautiful dresses there that I considered!

That being said, you don't get the individual attention that you would at a smaller boutique, which I think is where the varying reviews come from.

  • I have been there prom dress shopping with my sister.  I didnt try on any wedding gowns but they were absolutely beautiful! I think someone on here went on a weekday like a monday or tuesday, and was able to try on every dress she wanted because they were not busy at all! I would def recommend checking it out! :)
  • Are they affordable dresses?

  • You're most definitely going to have to make the trip.  When you pull up, you think  "WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING HERE?!" because it looks flat out wacky!! haha...

Once you get inside, it's amazing!  My consultant told me they had over 1,200 dresses in the store, but I'm not sure if that was just bridal or not?  they also have prom and bridesmaides dresses.  We worked with Tanya and she was SOOOO great.  We didn't end up buying our dress there because I found "the gress" somewhere else, but they were great.  Worth the drive!
  • Hahaha, I agree with the PP! When we first pulled up, my mom and I laughed and said, "well, we'll give it a shot!"

The place is actaully awesome! There are TONS of dresses there in every different style. You pull your own dresses from the big racks (they are organized by style), so that is different from other places, but it was actaully nice that you could see all of the dresses in the style you were thinking and pull any you even might like and try them.

I was there on a Thirsday afternoon and it was just me and another girl. The woman working was very friendly and helpful (pulling back the fabric and clipping it to see how the right size would fit and pulling other dresses). You can try on as many dresses as you want (I only did 7 b/c I found 'the dress' pretty quickly!).

As far as prices, you cant beat them. The other dresses I was looking at were all about $2-3,000 and the dress I got there was $425! We were talking to the woman about how their prices were so low, and she said a lot of it is their low overhead (obvious in the outside, hahaha) and they don't do huge mark-ups. Apparently they have a lot of the dresses that Kleinfeld's has and they just don't mark it up like the big stores.

Sorry for the novel, but hope this helps! Summary: Yes, worth the drive!

  • I would highly recommend Universe bridal. I got my wedding dress there a couple months ago. Tip: Go during the week. They're a lot less busy during the week. I went on a Friday, during the day, and it was just me and another girl in there. I had the full attention of one of the consultants the entire time.

The selection is huge and the prices are great. The dress I bought was my dream dress. I had first tried it on at a store in Cincinnati, but decided to keep looking when it was outside of my price range. When I called Universe to see if they had any dresses like the one in CIncinnati and they said they did I decided to maket he trip. I was pleasantly surprised when they had the exact same dress I loved and it was priced lower. To top it off, I was able to purchase one of their new sample dresses for an additional 20% off so it was a lot less than the store in Cincinnati.

Your bridesmaids can get 20% off if they buy their bridesmaid dresses there too.

I heard about Universe from one of my friends who bought her wedding dress and our bridesmaid dresses there a couple years ago.

Even though it's a bit of a drive, there's a small cafe there that you can stop and have lunch at.
  • Just went to universe bridal.

They did have a large collection, although as other's have said, they don't help you out much (there was only one other bride in the store too, so this was probably some of their better service). However, the prices weren't worth the drive.

The dresses that I recognized from other stores were priced around the same price. I didn't see anything good for under 1,000, although they do have a weirder variety of sizes in samples so that makes buying a sample easier!
