I don't have my wedding thank you cards yet

I received two gifts from my FMIL's friend at my bridal shower. One was a bridal shower gift that I immediately sent a thank you for the week after with the batch of thank you cards I had written.  The other gift was intended for the wedding since they won't be able to attend. They left the gift at my FMIL house and she brought it over to ours. Now I have it- it is staring at me. I've read the other comments about it is ok to open it and send a thank you but not use the gift.  However, I am ordering special thank you notes after the wedding from a photo that my photographer is going to give us in a sneak preview about a week after the wedding.  Do I send a regular thank you in acknowledgment of the gift and send a special photo card after the wedding. Or should I just wait and write the 1 card?

    I'd just write the regular thank you right away, and not worry about the special photo card.

    you also shouldnt wait on the other thank yous either, for a photo card to come in, unless he really can turn the cards around to you within one week (seems fast to me).

    Just get some plain thank you notes now to use for gifts you recieve before the wedding. Don't worry about sending photo cards to those people.

    If you really want people to receive the photo ones, you can always send the basic one now and then the photo one later as a 'follow up' to say "just wanted to thank you again for being there!" sort of thing.

    Thanks for the feedback from everyone!  I will get a few regular cards for any presents we receive immediately before our October 13th wedding. Our photographer said she would pick out a images and have them ready for us when we get back from the honeymoon so I can order get my photos made into a folded card so I can still write an individual thank you.

    p.s. I got a photo card from a couple last year just saying thank you for sharing our special day but was not personalized and made no mention of the gift my fiance' and I had given them- TACKY!
