String trio

Can anyone give me an idea of what I should expect to pay for a string trio to play at my ceremony?  I work at a university, so it will probably be students and/or faculty.

Also, I am considering having them play at my reception.  Is this a good idea?  It is an afternoon reception with no alcohol or drinking, but I would like to have some background music.

We are paying each of our musicians $150-$200 each for the ceremony.  Two of them are music students or recent graduates and are doing it for $150, so that would be my estimate of what you would pay each person (so ~$450 total).  But of course you would need to ask them what their fee would be.

I think a string trio at an afternoon reception with no dancing would be great.  I definitely prefer live music over DJ music and a string trio would be super!  Probably if you book them for both the ceremony and reception they would give you a reduced rate.

Here in Michigan I was quoted $120-$150 per hour per musician.  This was from the College of Music at Michigan State.

A trio at the reception would be lovely.  We are having a string trio at the ceremony and a jazz trio during the cocktail hour and dinner.  The Dj starts up after dinner for dancing.
