Second Weddings

Mom first, Bride second?

I'm wondering if and when I'm going to get to be bride first! And it's not like I have little children. Mine are adults or darn close to it!

My eldest lives out of town and is coming home today, day before the wedding, so today will involve time spent in the storage unit going through his things so I can get ready to move without having to haul his stuff halfway across the country in a different direction than from where he leaves. It will also involve taking him to the dentist (because he doesn't have a car and I need to be over near where his dentist is at some point).

I need to take my older daughter to an emergency eye doctor appointment because one of her contact lenses in the only pair she has at home, the pair that were in her eyes when she got here from where she lives out of town, fell down the drain. She can't see... so that lets out driving herself!

Day before the wedding, I'd love to be getting mani/pedi, brunching with my bridal party, the sort of thing I see so many knotties posting about doing. Ah well... this is my life.

I'd take her to the eye appointment first  thing and then have her take him to the storage  unit while you go get wedding ready!  ;)

So much for R & R-- your post appears as being posted at 3:45 am!!

I hope you can effectively delegate some of the errands to others today, and find some time to relax and prepare for the big day.  This last 24 hours is a whirlwind, if you don't HAVE TO do something- don't.  I also hope you can find 15 minutes to  be alone with your FI, savor what these months of planning has brought to your relationship, and share some excited anticipation.  If you can sit down alone together, share a glass of wine, and just enjoy each other--it goes a long way in reducing the crazies that will be coming with the party frenzy.

Best wishes to you both. ~Donna

Donna, I'm on the east coast so it was really 4:45. I did get just over 4 hours of sleep.

FI and I don't live together and that's a big part of the problem. We're trying to combine my household into his - but... we're picking up and moving in late October. And unfortunately, we won't be living together until August 31. He's been a great help but he doesn't realize that his meltdowns about my move aren't helping me. They're making me totally stressed out.

If I wasn't worried about the move, taking DD21 to the eye doctor this morning would be no big deal. Dealing with DS24's belongings in my storage unit for a few more days wouldn't be such an issue either.

I'd love to be able to head up to the hotel where my parents, fiance, cousin (MOH) and best friend are staying tonight and just chilling there. But with the pressure on me to get this move organized and done yesterday... it just makes this mom duties seem so over the top!

Got DD21 all set, DS24 is home... and we're off to start packing things up.

Between the two of them, I've given away a lot of household items this morning so that's good.

We're going to work in storage for the next not quite 3 hours, then I'll shower and leave for the hotel. DD and DS have figured out how to share the car and still make it to dinner in time. So that part is all good.

Sue, I can TOTALLY relate, and my wedding is more than a year away!

A "Mom" is never off duty, ever. It's sad, but true. I love the line from "Parenthood"  (one of my top 5 favorite movies)............"Parenthood is forever. There is no end line, you never get to spike the ball. It goes on forever, just like your Aunt Edna's ass". I have watched that movie since it was made in 1989, whenever I can on tv. It was made when my oldest was 2 years old, I LMAO then. Over the years, as I've watched it, there are different things that ring true with me. Now that I am dealing with so much with my fiance's kids, who are TOTALLY different than mine, it still resonates, and different things strike me.

Your wedding will be beautiful, because the love between you and your soon-to-husband is beautiful. It will all work out. I can't wait to see the pics!

Good luck. Stay calm. Stop being Mom FOR ONE G-D*AMNED DAY!

Girl, slow down and relax. Motherhood is forever and yes, we will always give them more than we should. But who con blame us?
I hope you have a great day and blessings pouring over you two as you start a new chapter in your lives! Congrats!

Finally taking a breather from moving - for literally only a few hours. The first 10 days of marriage were great, during a really stressful time (all these moves we have going on).

As of last night, though, DH was back at his house, I was home alone in my apartment... and today I start the drive to get DD19 back to college!

Our wedding was amazing. I was relaxed, happy and had the best time. Everyone seemed to have had a great time. This is when DH saw me for the first time.

I can't find the really good pictures that someone sent me, but here's an okay one.

Congratulations on the first ten days!  I'm sure the rest will be terrific as well ... just wait until you two are actually living in the same house.  Woo hoo!!!!
