need some quick advice this morning

hello ladies,
i am going to pick up my dress this morning from the seemstress.  I was just wondering if you think I need to tip her.  I've been going back and forth on this because i didn't have anything crazy done to the dress, just heming, and had it taken in a bit around the bust, then just had the bustle made a little less 'poofy'.  so nothing crazy, no complete changes or anything.
This all cost me $600 (my jaw dropped at my last fitting) & she also owns her own shop.  So I don't know if I should tip or not.  Let me know what you guys think.  Thanks!!

Re: need some quick advice this morning

  • Since she is the owner of the shop, I wouldn't tip.

  • No, unless you feel she's done something extraordinary. It's her shop, so you really don't have to tip her.

  • I think you're okay without tipping.

  • thanks ladies! hope your all staying calm & excited! Aug is almost here!
  • See, my lady owns her shop too... my mom's dress is done.. hemmed, taken in, jacket taken in (the dress has lots of layers too).  She charged her $25.  I told my mom she definitely needs to tip, because she got such an awesome deal!
  • Definitely don't tip. No need since all that profit is hers (and holy crap that's a LOT of profit! I can't believe she charged you that much!!! I got my hem and bustle done for $40!!!)

  • I only paid for what my seamstress charged. Did you say $600?  I got all that done, besides the bustle, but she embroided our initials inside of my dress for $250. Do you think the cost is a regional thing? That is really expensive to me.

  • i am right in boston, so im assuming that adds to it.  I think she also knew how much i spent on my dress (she worked at an extrememly high end gown shop until the shop closed) I thought it seemed high, but she came recommended through the store I bought my dress at.  I didnt want to risk anything with the dress because it was pretty costly (thanks mom!) & my dream dress that i had been stalking down for a year before i got enganged haha :)
i almost choked on my coffee when she told me the cost 2 weeks ago, but what can i do now, only 8 days away ... & it was pretty perfect when i saw it last

kfrazel--I paid about that much (a bit more, actually) for similar work.  My jaw dropped as well.

In the end, I'm happy I'll be confident that my dress looks PERFECT on my wedding day.  She's a custom dress maker, so the work she did was of great quality.
