Poll: Do you carry cash?

More and more I find myself cash-less.

Paychecks get direct deposited and if I go to a the store to buy a 79 cent pack of gum, I have to use my debit card. Drive-thrus - I use a card. I have to make a special trip to the ATM for work vending machine Diet Cokes.

FI has cash all the time. I'm wondering if it's a guy thing. He looks at me crazy when I use my debit card to buy something minor.

So, what do you use more cash or cards?

When I was a bartender, I ALWAYS had cash, for obvious reasons. My work doesn't do direct deposit, so I have to go to the bank to put my paycheck in, and I always get at least $20 cash from my paycheck. So a little bit of both.

It depends. I usually use cards, but if I know I'll need cash for a bar or restaurant (a lot of places near school don't take cards) I'll take $100 out and spend that for as long as it lasts.

Lauren, when I was a server - I was the exact same way. After leaving it was weird not to have cash on hand all the time. Now it's just the opposite.

I rarely carry cash. I only have it on me now because I withdrew some for the GTG, but once it's gone then it'll be a while.

We take cash out every week for groceries and spending $$. When it's gone, it's gone for the week. But we each get $60 for eating out lunches, going to dinner with friends, picking up odds and ends, etc. Otherwise we use the bank card for clothes, dog food, any other household needs.

I don't usually have cash, unless I just got reimbursed through petty cash, or unless I know i will need cash for parking, valet, ect. when I go out. Gone are the days when you needed a quarter for an emergency call.

When I go for a bike ride, I do bring a few dollars cash with me just in case the little town i get lost in doesnt take cards at its convenience store, or I pass a lemonade stand, etc.. Also, dollar bills are good for keeping your tube from poking though a hole in your tire... but I also bring my debit card with me.

FI usually takes out cash if we are goinf downtown for something and takes out too much, usually, so he has some in his wallet most of the time, but not much.

I normallly have less than $20 on me or whatever cash tips I might have gotten (most of our tips are room charged and not cash).

DH is not much better.

Usually not a whole lot, maybe $20 for little things during the week. My bank always charges me with fees unless I run my card as a "credit" transaction.

In the States, neither of us ever carried cash. It was all debit. Here though, you can't use your debit or credit cards very easily so we always have cash.

Rarely. It drives DH a little nuts, because he has to have his checks cashed. With direct deposit and a debit card, I never have cash.

I with draw cash each payday for our extra stuff - gas, groceries, toiletries, booze, etc. I section it off in envelopes and take it when we need it. I almost always have cash on me now. I dont like using our debit cards because we spend over our budget that way and if we do too many transactions we get dinged.

I always just use debit card unless someone has given me cash for something then I'll use that. Now, we leave for vacation tonight and I'm strictly taking cash (which I never do) because it's better for setting up our onboard account..

I always have at least $20. I feel very uncomfortable when I don't have any cash--I guess I'm always afraid I'll wind up somewhere that is cash only. I also refuse to use my debit card for things under $10. I don't really know why.

If I didn't use cash, I'd never have change for parking meters!

I never have cash. Checks get direct deposited, and most places around here take cards. We do try to remember to take out some cash if we go bar hopping with friends because the country bars don't usually take cards, cash or check only. Otherwise, I'm just too lazy to run to the ATM I guess.

FI always carries cash. I have maybe $20, max on me at any given time, and often none. It's easy for me to spend cash without thinking about it. But at the same time, it's easier to keep track of. I can think, "Oh wow, I had $50 yesterday and now I'm down to $20? I need to stop getting starbucks in the morning." Debit card, it's just $6 here and there until I realize I've spent $60 on random stuff in one week. So basically, I can't budget.

I usually try to have at least $20 cash on me. Mainly because Tim Horton's doesn't use debit cards. I also feel kind of silly using my debit card for any transaction under $10.

I try to use my debit card for most things because I have my regular spending account set up to round up to the next $5. The difference between my transaction amount and the next $5 is automatically transferred into my savings account. It adds up quickly and I really don't notice it until I look at my balance in my savings account.

I never have cash and when i do have cash i put it in my drawer and save it for something special.

my husband gets tipped out and he saves them in a drawer as well. he's saving for a tv. i'm saving for vegas.
