Destination wedding guest favors- need advice/ideas!

I am getting married at an all-inclusive resort in Mexico in November 2012 (3 months away!!).  We are having 18 guests attend our wedding- close family and friends.  We are trying to find creative guest gifts/favors to give.  Because the resort is all-inclusive, I don't particularly want to give a gift bag with water bottles, snacks, etc.  For the women, I was thinking of an individually chosen necklace with a beach theme, such as a shell-shaped necklace.  Thoughts?  What about the men?  Our guests are spending quite a bit of money attending, and we are at a loss with what to give them without spending a TON of money.  I was thinking $30/person or less.

Oh, and another thought I had, which would have to be given after the wedding, would be a framed photo of each guest enjoying their time on the beach in Mexico, maybe black and white or sepia.  Would it be rude to give this as a gift since it would come after the wedding?  Maybe I could let guests know this is what they'll get via a thank-you card given during the rehearsal dinner.

I think the seashell necklace is an AWESOME idea!  Do it!!!  That's great!  In fact, if I need to increase the budget on my giftbags, I might do the same thing.  I just absolutely love your idea!

The wedding photo -- I think it's the best idea ever.  Very nice!  It makes it obvious that you are going out of your way to take care of your guests.
  • Love the photo idea.... why not get a nice frame, maybe even customize it, then you could give it to them with the photo.... I would think a cute poem in a card with a clue of what the gift entailed at the rehersal dinner would be fine!

  • I also like to photo idea. You could give the frame at the reception with a note that a photo will be sent later. I am also getting married at an All-Inclusive on Grand Bahama Island in November. We have only 10 guests, 3 under the age of 18, so I was struggling as to appropriate gifts to span 3 generations and both sexes. For my welcome bags I had personlized tumblers made (the insulated ones with lids and straws) at Mi Designs (24 minimum, but used a 40% off coupon, so not too bad a price). We have been to the resort and the drinks are poured in 6 oz disposabe cups, so I thought the tumblers would be great to give. I am also including personlalized beach safes from Oriental Trading Co. I am still adding bits and pieces, like small notebooks, lip balm, and maybe a small sunscreen. I am searching for a decent travel candle as a possible favor. Godiva also has small packages of seashell shaped chocolates, but I am not sure I wnat to risk the melting factor. I have thought about waiting until I get to The Bahamas and go pick up a few small gifts at the local straw market, postcards, etc. I will be picking up a case of water and adding personlaized labels once I arrive. Even at an AI, bottled water is great for someone to grab if the want to leave the hotel.
