Church or Reception????

My reception hall is about 40 min. away from my church which is where I was planning on having the ceremony.  I'm thinking about just having everything at the reception hall.    Does anyone have any ideas about how to make it as similiar to having a ceremony at the church as possible(receiving line, limo ride, just married sign, etc.) What are your opinions?  Thank you!!

Re: Church or Reception????

  • I'm not sure what any of the things you listed have to do with the ceremony, but you can have the receiving line at the reception venue.  Take a limo from the reception to wherever you will be spending the night.  Put a "Just Married" sign on it.  Does that answer your question?  I feel like I'm missing something here.
  • I agree with PPs.

Also, some religions do not allow weddings outside of consecrated church buildings.

I know what you mean, I've been having the same problem. You can't have your guests drive 40 minutes from the church to the reception site but you still want that same feel of a church such as having a receiving line and what not.

My suggestion is if you really want a limo pick some where close by that would make a good photo area and leave the reception site for the photographs and have your guest do the same as they would if you were leaving the church. While your gone your guests can have cocktail hour (maybe even a photo booth or something to keep them preoccupied) while the reception site staff change over the room. Or if it possible have two different rooms to save for time so your guests can relax.

My warning though, from what I've seen, is just make sure that the guests are seated in the pew row style or something similar because if they're all spread out and you have many guests they might have a hard time hearing or seeing the ceremony.
