Not Flowers

So, I have been thinking of having the bridesmaids carry something other than flowers, but I can’t figure out what. It will be an indoor, afternoon, traditional church wedding in November – so no parasols or lanterns. I’m trying to avoid holiday/seasonal associations – so no branches/leaves or fur muffs. I am also very against feathers. Can anyone think of something else? The bridesmaids dresses are a royal blue satin.

(Okay, admittedly not the most off-beat, but a little)

My first thought was a pinwheel but then I saw your date is in November so:

- Brooch bouquet
- Childhood toy
- Basket (with or without moss)
- Fan

I know you said no flowers but I think pomanders, (the ball of flowers), would be pretty or perhaps making paper flowers?

I went to a wedding recently where they all carried handfans, that was pretty. Clutches always look nice too, as PP suggested!

i like the idea of clutches, actually. that would be cute. you might find some cute matching ones at a boutique or go vintage at an antique/thrift store.

I would say maybe candles (my wedding has hundreds), baskets, Bibles, clutches, fans, or my MOH and I even looked at Christmas decorations that matched the colors but weren't too seasonal.

I know you said no lanterns, but if you had small ones, you could put those battery operated tealights inside to avoid them burning their hands from the heat, or dropping and possibly causing a fire.

There's also the option of pompom balls (easily made out of fabric, paper, tissue paper, or coffee filters and a whiffle ball). Depending on how many you have, you could have them hold up small signs with a message for the groom (like "last chance to run", "here comes the bride", or something like that...one word per sign). Orrr....if you're into legos, you can create lego bouquets. I'd suggest checking out thrift stores for the legos as you would probably find a lot for quite a steal.

Of course, if that price scares you I would suggest doing it yourself.

If you're not totally against the style of flowers, you could make flowers out of fabric. That's what I'm doing for my wedding. Fabric flowers with button centers. Not one is identical.
